It’s almost surprising to see this game as a bottom half clash, with Wolves always proving difficult to beat and Leeds being praised for their performances throughout this season.
Though the truth is, results just haven’t come for either side for a variety of reasons, not least through the absence of Raul Jimenez for the hosts and Leeds’ leaky defence.
The Whites’ 4-2 defeat at the Emirates last weekend was telling of their season so far, with their defensive frailties being the thorn in their side as they drifted to 4-0 down before showing some character in an attempted comeback, albeit in vain.
That strong attack, weak defence combination has meant 11 of their last 14 games in all competitions see ‘Overs’ land, with no side seeing more than their 3.57 goals per game in the league this season.
Both Teams To Score
Wolves have long been revered as the antithesis of that, with their success at this level being based on a solid defence and relying on the likes of Jimenez, Diogo Jota and Matt Doherty to get them some goals.
Those latter two have now been sold, and with the Mexican striker still out it’s no surprise they’ve been lacking up top.
They’ve managed 16 goals in 17 games across all competitions now, scoring just once or fewer in 12 of those games, though against this side we’d be surprised if they drew a blank.
Excluding a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Man City, which can of course be pardoned, 10 of Wolves’ 11 matches at Molineux this season have been separated by a maximum of one goal, with the exception coming as a 2-0 win over a Crystal Palace side who don’t have the attacking firepower that Leeds possess with the likes of Patrick Bamford, Jack Harrison and Raphinha.
The both teams to score market is the one that jumps out, as it’s occurred in many of Wolves’ games against similar opposition type (middle-third), including Everton, Spurs, Arsenal (twice) and Southampton (twice), not to mention against other bottom half sides outside the relegation zone in Burnley, Brighton, and Newcastle.
Crystal Palace is the obvious exception here but considering low scoring games are more of a staple for them than Leeds, we’re inclined to ignore those results and go for a both teams to score bet here.
