International Break A Welcome Relief For Both Teams
It’s still early days but neither side here has made the ideal start to the season. Wolves have reached the group stages of the Europa League but it’s come at a cost domestically as they’re yet to win a game, while Chelsea were humiliated 4-0 at Old Trafford on the opening day and last time out failed to take maximum points against newly promoted outfit Sheffield United.
For Wolves, the international break brought welcome relief from their hectic schedule having already played six Europa League matches.
Nuno Espirito Santo will have to make do without suspended key centre-back Willy Boly, while Matt Doherty and Leander Dendoncker are injury doubts, though it’s Frank Lampard that has the greater concerns in medical department.
Chelsea Have Major Injury Concerns
Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi remain long-term absentees, but while the latter isn’t too far off a return now, fellow attacker Pedro is nursing a hamstring complaint and so Chelsea are light in the attacking department at present.
However, further afield there are even bigger concerns as left-back Emerson limped out just eight minutes into Italy’s win over Finland on Sunday, Antonio Rudiger is lacking match fitness following a sustained period on the sidelines, while Lampard is also sweating on the availability of midfielders Mateo Kovacic and especially the influential N’Golo Kante.
Chelsea have gone just W2-D2-L1 in the latter’s absence from the starting line-up in league games since the start of last season, despite three of these coming against promoted outfits.
Leicester have also both scored and conceded in their past four fixtures across all competitions, but though one of these came in the League Cup, it still came against Premier League opponents in the shape of Newcastle.
Wolves Draw No Bet
This then is a golden opportunity for the hosts to register a first league win of the campaign, particularly given their strong performances against the ‘Big Six’ last term.
In fact, including a pair of goalless stalemates with Man City in the League Cup during 2017/18 and in the Premier League Asia Trophy a couple of months ago in pre-season, Wolves are a highly impressive W6-D7-L4 versus the ‘Big Six’ across all competitions over the past two years now.
Both Teams To Score
Despite racking up a fair few victories in these matches, Wolves haven’t kept too many clean sheets either and in fact, they conceded in all six of those wins. Limiting their record to competitive matches since the start of last season, 12 of 15 encounters with the ‘Big Six’ have seen both teams find the net, whilst against anyone, each of their past five outings either in Europe or the Premier League have seen the same occur.
Moreover, both teams have scored in eight of Chelsea’s last nine fixtures now heading back into pre-season, with two-thirds of these games seeing at least four goals over 90 minutes, so this ought to prove an entertaining fixture for the neutral.
Both Teams To Score (Yes) At 8/11
