Recent Form
It’s been a tricky period for the Hammers who’s last gasp victory over Chelsea is their only win in their last seven outings.
They’ve now lost three of their last four games, with Jarrod Bowen’s midweek goal against Spurs the only time they’ve found the net across those games, and anything other than three points here will leave fans extremely disgruntled.
Southampton aren’t exactly having a great time either, with just three league wins to their name this season.
They’re looking to end a six game winless run this weekend, though that’s easier said than done at the London Stadium where the Hammers have only lost twice this season and picked up big wins over Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Leicester.
What’s more, the Saints’ only victory away this season has come at Vicarage Road, with Watford one of the most out of form sides in the league under Ranieri, so it’s hard to envisage an away victory.
Ralph Hasenhuttl is yet to beat David Moyes from his four games in charge, with their two meetings at the London stadium finishing 6-1 on aggregate to Moyes.
Both Teams To Score
The London side have won the last four home meetings with the Saints, scoring exactly three times in each and only conceding once in total across those outings. In fact, West Ham have gone unbeaten against the Saints at all venues since August 2017, winning six of their eight meetings.
One of those exceptions came in the reverse fixture back in September, though it’s been seven seasons since West Ham didn’t pick up at least one win against Southampton and this provides the perfect opportunity for them to get back to winning ways.
While the hosts have had defensive issues in recent weeks, with Aaron Cresswell, Kurt Zouma, Angelo Ogbonna and Vladamir Coufal all still out injured, they may have an issue at the other end with Michail Antonio potentially out through illness.
It’s therefore no surprise that they’ve kept just two clean sheets in their last 12 outings across all competitions, and with arguably their whole first choice defensive line out, we wouldn’t back them to make that three here.
Southampton still have Che Adams and Stuart Armstrong out for this clash, though Armando Broja provides enough attacking threat to cause a makeshift defence some issues, so we’ll back them to get on the scoresheet.
Down the other end though, they’ve now gone six outings without a clean sheet, conceding twice or more in every game except against the Seagulls, who have been struggling for output themselves, leaving both teams to score the best looking bet on this occasion.
PREDICTION:
BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
