Recent Form

West Ham don’t have a bad recent record in this competition, reaching the quarters in two of the last four seasons, though the two most recent have seen them exit in rounds three and four as they miss that star quality that the likes of Dimitri Payet and Marko Arnautovic brought to the side.

It’s been a poor start to the season for David Moyes’ men, conceding twice in each defeat to Newcastle and Arsenal in the league, though sandwiched between those fixtures was a 3-0 win over Charlton, and they’ll have to put in a similarly composed performance to get past another one of the Championship’s relegated sides on Tuesday.

Hull have made a positive start to life in League One, winning both their opening fixtures to sit third in the table, while they also dumped out new Premier League side Leeds on penalties in round two of this competition.

We’d expect both sides to rotate a bit, considering the congested fixture list at the moment, and West Ham’s squad depth should give them the upper hand here.

The likes of Manuel Lanzini, Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko and Sebastain Haller were all starters for the 3-0 win in the second round, though none managed to retain their place for the visit to the Emirates at the weekend and we’d expect most, if not all of them to feature again here and that could prove lethal of David Moyes.

West Ham -1 Handicap

Hull don’t have the best record away at the Hammers, not winning against them on the road since January 1990, and losing all seven subsequent matches at either Upton Park or the London Stadium.

We’d expect the Premier League side to start on the front foot and to remain in control for the majority of the match, and with the likes of Haller and Anderson fighting for a place in the first team, we’d expect them to be ruthless and pick up the win in regular time.

Last year’s humbling defeat away at Oxford United was their only defeat to non-Premier League opposition in the League Cup since 2011, with five of their other seven defeats in that period coming against ‘Big Six’ clubs. In fact, against lower league opponents they’ve won each of their last five matches by a minimum two goal margin, and that looks to be the way to bet again in order to find some value.

West Ham -1 Handicap At 19/20
