After reaching the FA Cup final last season, Watford have since come down a peg or two in the world and currently prop up the table as the only side yet to register a victory.
They may have recorded home wins in the League Cup over third-tier Coventry and Championship outfit Swansea, but their last two Premier League matches have seen them annihilated 8-0 by Man City and most recently they endured a 2-0 defeat at Wolves.
Sheffield United can hardly boast phenomenal form either having lost three of their last four games across all competitions, all by 1-0 scorelines, though at least they’ve been competitive, whereas Watford have gone down by a minimum of two clear goals in over half of their top-flight fixtures to date.
Strangely, each of those recent defeats suffered by the Blades have all come at Bramall Lane, while away from home they remain unbeaten as they’ve produced stalemates with Bournemouth and Chelsea and beaten Everton.
With that in mind, it’s difficult to see why the Hornets start as favourites for this clash. The hosts’ form has been abysmal for some time now stretching back into last season, as they’ve lost eight of 10 winless league games since late April, while they also trailed at the break in seven of these fixtures.
Sheffield United Draw No Bet
We’re not exactly expecting a thriller here. Watford may be primarily concerned with avoiding another damaging and demoralizing defeat, while they’re certainly short on firepower at the moment and so will have to rely upon securing their backline.
Gerard Deulofeu has been badly out of form and captain Troy Deeney remains sidelined with a knee injury, while fellow attacker Isaac Success is also still struggling with a groin complaint, leaving the goalscoring burden to fall upon Danny Welbeck.
Sheffield United were one of the most miserly teams in the Championship last season, with the 41 goals they shipped the joint-best in the division alongside Middlesbrough – who were then managed by anti-football expert Tony Pulis.
Under 2.5 Goals
Given Chris Wilder’s men have seen a combined tally of just five goals for or against across their last four outings in all competitions, we’d expect this game to be a low-scoring affair.
That’s especially the case as the Blades also have absentees at the sharp end, with David McGoldrick still struggling for fitness, while Billy Sharp serves the final game of a three-match suspension for his sending off against Southampton last month.
However, Oli McBurnie has provided a consistent threat, even if the Scotland international only has one strike to his name so far this season, so we’ll get behind the visitors draw no bet.
Even if one of their players can’t get their name onto the scoresheet, Watford may end up giving a helping hand in any case, as no side has registered more own goals than the five they’ve offered up since the start of last season.
