It wasn’t a spectacular ending to Wales’ group as they grinded their way past Uruguay to leapfrog the Aussies and finish top of Pool D.

That meant they avoided a potential clash with Eddie Jones’ strong English outfit and instead face a France team that hasn’t exactly excelled over the last fortnight.

Jacques Brunel’s men started their World Cup campaign with a blistering opening 40 minutes against Argentina having gone in at the break 20-3 up, though they tailed off after the break and had to rely on a 69th minute drop goal from Camille Lopez to secure victory by 23-21.

They’ve been unexceptional in victory in their three matches so far as other results against USA saw them at only 12-9 going into the final 15 minutes, while Tonga nearly overturned them in a tight two-point game.

That doesn’t exactly show signs of a side capable of taking down the current world number two team and if we look at their results against the current top six teams, they have a fairly poor record.

Indeed, they’ve lost 14 of their 15 encounters since June 2017, with nine of those by 12 or more points, while their solitary victory came at Stade de France against an England team in the midst of their torrid five game losing streak back in early 2018.

To make matters worse Les Bleus have been in the spotlight over the last few weeks now for all the wrong reasons.

Captain Guilhem Guirado is rumoured to have fallen out with Brunel, while the coaching team have made questionable decisions this tournament like sending home Thomas Ramos through ‘injury’ only for him to play for his club Toulouse last weekend as well as the embarrassment of calling up prop Uini Atonio only to find out he was already injured.

Wales on the other hand seem to have some of their injury concerns eased, with centre Jonathan Davies given the thumbs up after a scan on his knee, while Dan Biggar could also return at five-eighth to add some serious firepower to their backline.

Warren Gatland would certainly not make mistakes of that degree and he’ll fancy his chances against this French outfit seeing as his side have now won seven of their eight meetings with their opponents since 2012, all of which were in competitive Six Nations fixtures.

It should be mentioned though that only one of those games saw more than 11 points separate the sides, which has also been the case in 11 of their 13 fixtures with Tier 1 nations since November 2018.

Wales To Win, HT/Fulltime – Wales/Wales

Due to the unpredictable nature of the French we’d rather stick to backing the Welsh in the outright market, whilst we’ll also couple that with the Half Time/Full Time market.

Indeed, when excluding this summer’s experimental Tests, Gatland’s men have been winning at both the break and final whistle in 15 of their 18 fixtures since March 2018, including 11 of 14 against Tier 1 nations.

France on the other hand, have been losing at both half time and full time in 11 of their 25 such outings since June 2017, with all 11 coming from their 15 against the current top six sides in the world.
