For a promoted side that has lost three of their opening four games and find themselves down at 18th in the table, you would expect that Villa would be at a bigger price than their opponents here, even if they do benefit from playing on home turf.
The Hammers have got going this season with victories in their last two matches against Watford and Norwich, taking them into the top half of the table, though admittedly those vanquished sides are currently the only two below Villa in the standings.
The core reason for the two teams being level pegging in the odds is probably that West Ham haven’t enjoyed the best of times when facing promoted outfits, losing seven of 13 such matches since 2017/18 and winning the other six.
Away from home it’s an even worse four defeats from six games, as each of those losses on the road have come by at least two clear goals.
Moreover, Villa were able to win their last home game versus Everton, even if the 2-0 scoreline somewhat flattered them, while they were highly unfortunate to not walk away from Selhurst Park with a point last time out after Jack Grealish was adjudged to have dived in the build-up to what would have been a late equalizer.
West Ham may appear to have been entering some form, but the international break could hinder momentum and the visitors have hardly excelled on the road over the past couple of seasons where they’re W10-D10-L20.
Goals On Offer
With that in mind we’re inclined to avoid the match outcome, but there should be a healthy amount of goals on offer. Indeed, the visitors aren’t the type of team to park the bus and have witnessed 13 across their four games to date, as only Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Norwich have seen more.
Only the Canaries and West Brom saw more goals per game in the Championship than Villa last term, and neither side has looked particularly secure defensively so far in the new campaign.

Andriy Yarmolenko is like a new signing for Manuel Pellegrini following his lengthy lay-off and summer and looks set to form a potent front three along with Felipe Anderson and summer signing Sebastien Haller.
The latter appears to have settled in well with three goals across West ham’s last two games and could well become a fan favourite for the London club.
The Frenchman didn’t receive much service on the opening day as the Hammers went down 5-0 hosting Man City and didn’t feature in their other game versus Brighton, but appears a solid price to keep his streak going here.
