Villa need to arrest the slide having dropped from 12th to 17th over their past eight fixtures, going just W1-D1-L6 across them, though in mitigation they’ve endured a tough run of fixtures.
All but one of these matches came against top-half teams as the exception was their victory over 11th-placed Newcastle, including encounters with the likes of Liverpool, Man City, Leicester, Chelsea, Wolves and Man Utd.
Despite Villa’s descent down the table, they remain above Southampton and consequently the relegation zone on goal difference, having both scored more and conceded less.
The Saints appeared to have turned a corner as they drew away at Arsenal and recorded home wins over bottom-two outfits Watford and Norwich, but defeats in their last two games against Newcastle and West Ham have put a dampener on things.
Indeed, it means the visitors have now lost eight of their past 12 matches since mid-September, with those aforementioned victories their only three-pointers over this spell.
They have however been adept at getting onto the scoresheet having scored in 14 of their 17 games this season, though with just two clean sheets themselves and none in their past 12, it would be no surprise to see both teams register on the board, though at such a short price we’d rather steer clear of this market.

Danny Ings To Score Anytime
One man who is doing his bit for Southampton is top goalscorer Danny Ings. Across all competitions he’s bagged 11 goals this season, including 10 in his last 11 appearances where he’s played more than 45 minutes.
Having netted at least once in five of the last six, he was unlucky not to make is six in as many having rattled the crossbar against the Hammers.
With each of these matches coming against teams that are currently 10th or lower in the table, Villa look like the kind of side he enjoys to prey on.

In fact, whereas Villa have lost seven of nine road trips this term, they’ve gone W3-D2-L2 in their past seven at home as only league leaders Liverpool and their closest chasers Leicester got the better of them.
