Uruguay certainly haven’t hit the heights they have been over the last decade or so, and despite finishing second to Argentina in Group A, they haven’t exactly impressed and again look too reliant on Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani, who are still the only two goalscorers for their nation so far this tournament.
Colombia have also struggled without James Rodriguez in the squad, and they’ll be disappointed to have finished third in the group after an opening day win over Ecuador.
They certainly still have the talent on the pitch, though they’ve simply not jelled to the extent they have done on the biggest stage in recent years.
The main issue for both at the moment has been output and between them, they’ve managed just five goals from open play across eight matches now, and even one of those was an own goal.
It’s therefore not surprising that six of those eight matches has seen under 2.5 goals land, and it certainly wouldn’t be shocking to see it happen again here.
Colombia come into this off the back of successive 2-1 defeats to Peru and Brazil, and they’ll be kicking themselves over both, not least in the latter as they took a one goal lead into the final 15 minutes of the game.
Those results mean it’s now just two wins in nine matches for this Colombia side, with those wins coming against Peru and Ecuador so they may find this a bit of a struggle, even if the Uruguayan’s are struggling a bit themselves.
Uruguay Draw No Bet
Wins over Bolivia and Paraguay in their final two group games saw Uruguay nab second spot in their group, while it also ended a five-match winless run for Oscar Tabarez’s side.
Those victories were far from convincing though, and their reliance on their two star forward players isn’t going to serve them too well going forward in this competition.
Cavani’s goal against Bolivia and Suarez’s against Chile are the only two goals that Uruguay have scored from open play in their last seven matches, and it’s therefore unsurprising to see unders at such a short price.
Uruguay have history on their side as they lead the head-to-head and across the last 12 matches alone, they’ve won eight and drawn two so they certainly know how to beat this Colombia side and we can’t get behind Los Cafeteros with that in mind.
Neither side will want to settle for a draw here, though on the chance that neither can find a winner we’ll opt for the draw no bet to add a buffer, and it’s the Uruguayans that look to have just this little bit extra star quality which can make all the difference in knockout games like these.
