First Two Fights
The first two meetings between these two were one-sided affairs, though Fury did take until the fifth round to really exert dominance in their 2011 clash, having been staggered during the early stages. However, Fury has since proven his powers of recovery beyond any doubt against arguably the heaviest hitter in the business, Deontay Wilder, who had Fury down four times across their epic trilogy.
The 2014 matchup failed to deliver any sort of competitive contest, as Chisora’s team eventually pulled him out at the end of the 10th round. Fury has only improved since then and cemented his status as the best heavyweight of his generation, with Oleksandr Usyk the only proper outstanding challenge. Chisora has already hit Fury with his best shots (in the 2011 meeting) and it wasn’t enough to knock him down, let alone keep him on the canvas, so even if Chisora gets that lucky early breakthrough, it’s difficult to see him capitalizing on the advantage.
Recent Form
Chisora may have won his last fight against a 41-year-old Kubrat Pulev, though it’s his only win across the past three years, as he lost to both Oleksandr Usyk and Joseph Parker by unanimous decision, as well as another bout with Parker that saw him defeated by split decision.
In 20 fights since Fury v Chisora II, the latter has only suffered a single loss by knockout, at the hands of Dillian Whyte, though there were another six losses that went the distance. The big question is really how long the veteran can last in this one, and in particular if he can last the distance.
Chisora has only suffered three stoppages. One came in a meeting with David Haye that brought out a lot of ill-temper, with that fight always likely to end with an early knockout one way or the other, while Chisora was keen to box on even once the ref had seen enough. Whyte sparked him out cold from a single blow, while Fury was simply too good.
Fury To Win In Round 9-12
Fury has already demonstrated in two meetings with Chisora that he can simply hide behind the jab and pick his opponent off, without running the risk of receiving too much damage himself. Indeed, Chisora can only boast limited stamina, requiring recovery breaks between punches, which often results in him losing the rounds.
Fury has the reach to pepper Chisora from range, the boxing intelligence to outsmart him, and if necessary, the powers to recover from a lapse in concentration. However, seven of Fury’s past 11 fights have made it to the ninth round, with only two that were shorter than the six rounds it took the Gypsy King to see of Dillian Whyte, so we wouldn’t bank on the entertainment being over too early against an opponent with plenty of heart.
