Recent Form

Another derby fixture in the Premier League only this one isn’t quite as fierce as the Merseyside one, with Spurs main rivals being their neighbours Arsenal.

Nonetheless, this one can often get heated and that only adds to the excitement of the returning league action, coupled with the return of Gareth Bale to North London.

Jose Mourinho’s men will be buoyant after they inflicted the joint heaviest defeat in Man Utd’s Premier League history a fortnight ago, and although the squad have all gone their separate ways to link up with their international sides, they’ll still be able to build off that superb performance on returning.

That isn’t the first time they’ve hammered a team this term either, beating Southampton 5-2 on the road last month as well as slightly easier 3-1 and 7-2 results in the Europa League qualification with Shkendija and Maccabi Haifa respectively.

Their form at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium doesn’t make quite as good reading, as although that latter nine goal European thrashing came at this stadium, they’ve drawn two of their three winless domestic outings.

However, if we break that down it does include a League Cup win over Chelsea on penalties with a rotated side, a stalemate with Newcastle following a dubious handball was given against them in stoppage time, while their sole defeat was to Carlo Ancelotti’s flying Everton outfit on the opening weekend.

Spurs To Win And Both Teams To Score

West Ham have been rather inconsistent this term. Losing to both Newcastle and Arsenal in their opening two matches of the new campaign, while they’ve since downed Wolves at London Stadium and Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester at King Power by four and three goal margins respectively.

However, those two impressive wins sandwich a 4-1 defeat a Goodison Park, and even if they did put out a weaker starting team that day against a full-strength Everton outfit, they’re susceptible to a trouncing.

Moreover, we’re inclined to see their successful trip to the Foxes before the international break as more of a one off than anything else, considering they’ve gone just W2-D2-L8 from their 12 road games dating back to Boxing Day last year, with all but one of those coming under David Moyes.

However, they have managed to net as many as 11 times across the most recent five and we still think they’ll find a way onto the scoreboard.

Interestingly, each of the last six of those road game defeats either came against a ‘Big Six’ side or last seasons’ Leicester, but considering they’re up against a confident Spurs outfit, we hardly think we’re going to see a drastic change from that norm.

Mourinho has led his charges to nine wins from his 15 home games in charge, only losing to Chelsea, Liverpool, Wolves and Everton, while he’s uncharacteristically kept just five clean sheets across all of them, and the bet for us looks to be in backing the home side and both teams to score.
