Recent Form

Contrasting weekends for these two sides saw Spurs thumped 3-0 by a Crystal Palace side who simply played them off the park, while Chelsea were on the right end of a 3-0 scoreline against Aston Villa, though that result somewhat flattered the blues, who have Edouard Mendy to thank for maintaining a clean sheet.

Chelsea will be the happier of the two sides with their midweek results too, with a professional, if uninspiring performance saw Chelsea claim a 1-0 win over Zenit, while Spurs got their Europa Conference League campaign off to a winless start against Rennes.

Form tends to fly out the window when these two rivals meet though, as it does in plenty of derbies, but it is Chelsea who again have the better recent record in this fixture.

The West London side have gone W5-D2 over 90 minutes from the last seven outings across all competitions, winning to nil away to Spurs in each of the last two seasons, and the gulf in class between the two seems to be getting greater by the game.

The main hope for the Lilywhites will be ensuring Son Heung-Min is fit for this clash, though that is very much up in the air as he remained unavailable for their clash on Thursday.

Spurs have won just one of the five league matches that the South Korean hasn’t started since the start of last season, and if he’s absent again here you have to fear the worst.

Spurs have still managed to win three of their four league games, so it’s not all doom and gloom in North London, and while they’ve been solid defensively for the most part under new management, they seemed to come unstuck last weekend and they can ill afford to be as shaky against this Chelsea forward line.

Chelsea To Win

Romelu Lukaku is providing the missing piece Chelsea needed under Thomas Tuchel, with a target man up top for their more creative players to play off and into, while his ability to grab a goal when needed is also proving very handy for this side.

It’s hard to pinpoint a weakness in this Blues side at the moment, though having drawn to Liverpool already this campaign, they’ll want to prove they can pick up the points against the big teams if they want to challenge for the title.

Ultimately, Spurs have looked poor in front of goal despite their obvious attacking assets, and they’ve only managed three goals so far in the league this season.

While we wouldn’t be too confident in another away win to nil, especially with the likes of Harry Kane on the pitch, Chelsea should simply outscore their hosts and the away win looks the way to go.

PREDICTION:

CHELSEA TO WIN
