Spurs have flown through to the last 16 of the Europa League from their tie with Wolfsberger, though in truth that should never have been in doubt considering it was probably the biggest mismatch of the last-32 stage, and their domestic form is certainly more of a concern.
Having lost just three of their opening 18 matches which had them in the discussion for the title race, they’ve now dropped all the way down to ninth with five defeats in six games.
In truth, it’s not been the easiest run having faced four of the top six sides in the league in that time, though the manner of some of the defeats, including away at Brighton, should have Spurs fans worried as they seem to be slowly drifting out of the race for the top four.
Spurs have failed to do the double over Burnley in five of the six seasons that they’ve met in the Premier League, though they’ll have another roll of the dice here having won the reverse fixture 1-0 back in October.
That result came when these two sides were in vastly different form as Burnley had picked up just one point from their opening four matches heading into that clash while Spurs were looking to build on their first two away wins of 5-2 and 6-1 over Southampton and Man United, respectively.
We’ve mentioned the Lilywhites’ recent form, while the Clarets are now unbeaten in four, so we wouldn’t read too much into that earlier meeting this season.
Under 2.5 Goals
Jose Mourinho has never been beaten by Sean Dyche in 10 previous meetings, though as you can expect, games between these two tacticians seldom bring about goals.
Indeed, seven of the last nine meetings have seen a maximum of two strikes, with one of the exceptions coming last season as Spurs ran riot during their manager bounce period, though as things have now settled down in North London, we’d be surprised to see a repeat of that 5-0 routing.
No team has seen fewer than Burnley’s 1.92 goals per game this season, while the hosts haven’t exactly been prolific in front of goal recently, netting just four times in six games, with half of those coming against the leakiest defence in the league in West Brom.
Of course, Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son always pose a threat to any defence, though they often like to exploit space in behind, which we’d be surprised if Burnley left any, so the Unders bet here certainly looks the best shout.
