Recent Form
Jose Mourinho finally played the coveted midfield trio of Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovanni Lo Celso, though they never really managed to jell and we’re under the cosh for a lot of the match, relying on two penalties and a Son Heung-Min counter attack.
That being said, counter attacking has been a staple of the North London side’s football this season and has yielded results. They’ve lost just twice so far this season from their twenty matches and are on a run of six wins from eight unbeaten matches.
Antwerp currently sits top of this group, and its business as normal in the Jupiler League as they resume the position of fourth that they’ve occupied in the final standings in the past two seasons.
They failed to get past the group stage last season in what was their first Europa League campaign since the rebrand, and they’ll know it’s an achievement in itself what they’ve managed so far, though they’ll too want to finish top of this group.
The Belgian side’s form leaves a bit to be desired, as since that victory in the reverse fixture which completed a run of six straight wins, they’ve now gone W3-D2-L3 in all competitions, while on the road they’ve won just one of their last four matches and are coming into this off the back of a defeat away to league leaders Genk, so it’s hard to be convinced of their chances against the current Premier League leaders.
Spurs And Antwerp To Draw
It’s difficult to predict what Jose Mourinho is going to do with his line-up as they now face seven matches in the next 20 days, and four in the next 10 alone including huge league matches against Liverpool and Leicester next week.
With qualification already secured, this is surely the match that may have to go by the wayside, if any, and he will surely opt for some squad rotation here and give fringe players a chance.
With that considered, the hosts look far too short to win considering they lost the reverse fixture, and although they’ve now won five on the bounce at home, a weakened side against the group leaders will always be a tester.
They’ve drawn two of their last three matches, and we’re happy to get behind that becoming three of four at the prices.
