Fleetwood set to carry British flag at The Open Championship

Genting’s Bet insight shows third ranked British golfer set to spearhead home challenge at Royal Birkdale this week.

Tommy Fleetwood (22/1) is Britain’s most likely winner in the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale this this week, according to Genting Bet.

Fleetwood enters the tournament ranked 14th in the world, and Genting Bet has found the local hero heads into this year’s Open with a better shot at victory than Rory McIlroy (18/1) and Justin Rose (18/1), the two highest British ranked golfers.

Fleetwood’s impressive record in 2017 draws similar comparisons to 2016 Open Winner Henrik Stenson, who is 25/1 to triumph this week and 11/2 for top Continental European. Stenson entered last year’s tournament with eight top 10 finishes this year, the same number as Fleetwood.

However, the Englishman holds advantage over last year’s winner with two tournament victories more at this stage, leaving him in great shape to cap his meteoric rise to the top with a fairy-tale finish on Sunday.

Boom or Bust for Fleetwood

With Genting Bet insight revealing Tommy Fleetwood as the most likely Brit to lift the Claret Jug, all may not go swimmingly for the Southport-born golfer this weekend.

Fleetwood has never made the cut in three attempts at the Open Championship, and despite his 2017 form exceeding that of the highly-acclaimed McIlroy and Rose, he’s missed 33% of the cuts this year suggesting his tournament may be over in 36 holes.

In 13 of the 15 tournaments Fleetwood has played this year, the 26-year-old has either missed the cut or finished in the top 10 – a statistic that confirms a Boom or Bust approach for the home boy this weekend, making the 2/1 top 10 finish an attractive option.

However, as Genting Bet’s research suggests, his recent form of 6th-1st-10th in his last three tournaments indicates we’ll see an inspired-Fleetwood in front of his home fans at Birkdale and he’s 6/1 to be the top GB & Ireland player.

Justin Rose: The Best of The Rest

Aside from Fleetwood, Genting Bet’s stats suggest Justin Rose has the better chance of lifting the Claret Jug out of the top three ranked British golfers.

The World No.12 edges out Rory McIlroy in top 10 finishes this year with five of his own, including an agonising second place at this year’s Masters.

Rose looks a certainty to complete 72 holes at Birkdale having missed only 8% of the cuts this year, a stat remarkably lower than McIlroy and Fleetwood’s at 33%.

Further, Genting Bet’s insights show his best placed Open finish as 4th, a feat he achieved at this year’s course Royal Birkdale 19 years ago.

He can be backed at evens to record a top 20 finish, whilst he’s 13/10 to win his three ball which includes Louis Oosthuizen and Justin Thomas.

Elsewhere, Rory McIlroy, the highest ranked British golfer at number 4, looks unlikely to lift his second Claret Jug this weekend.

The Northern Irishman enters the tournament in dismal form having missed three of his last cuts, and with no top 3 finishes this year, McIlroy looks a far cry from his 2014 Open Champion-self.

This makes the Top Irish market an open field, and Padraig Harrington looks a great bet at 12/5 having recorded a top 5 finish at the Scottish Open last week.

Not only this, the 45-year-old won Royal Birkdale’s last Open back in 2008 and is worth an E/W punt at 60/1 to repeat history 11 years on.
