Recent Form

Rangers head into this fixture off the back of a crucial victory over Brondby in Europe and although they’re yet to hit top form this season, they are consistently picking up results where they’re needed.

The Gers are W9-D3-L2 since mid-August as both defeats were inflicted in Europe, against Lyon and Sparta Prague, with their domestic form taking them to the top of the table and through to the League Cup semi-finals.

St. Mirren are unbeaten in six appearances now, though it’s fair to say they’ve enjoyed a kind fixture list with none of those encounters coming against the current top four in the table.

They’ve even won the past three, but with these victories all picked up over teams in the bottom four, this will represent their toughest assignment since going down 6-0 to Celtic at Parkhead just prior to their unbeaten streak.

Celtic are however by far and away the league’s top scorers and have been especially blistering on home turf, where 16 of their 21 goals have been plundered.

Rangers haven’t been anywhere near as explosive and haven’t managed to score more than twice in any of their past 11 fixtures across all competitions, while they only managed to net twice in four of these games.

Rangers To Win And Under 2.5 Goals

None of these matches have exceeded three goals in total, with seven of the past eight featuring fewer than three.

Ryan Kent remains sidelined and Alfredo Morelos continues to struggle for output with just five goals from 16 games this season, while 12 of Kemar Roofe’s 13 goals for Rangers in 2021 have come at Ibrox.

With that in mind, Rangers’ defence of their title looks set to primarily rest upon their defensive resilience. However, although not conceding many goals, they’re certainly not without fault at the back.

They’ve only actually registered clean sheets in four of 12 away league matches this calendar year, though will fancy themselves to do so here given their head-to-head record with their hosts.

Rangers have won eight of nine meetings with St. Mirren since Steven Gerrard rocked up in Glasgow, keeping clean sheets in each of those victories.

They haven’t scored more than twice in any of the four clashes at St. Mirren Park however, so a tight win looks on the cards.

Six of St. Mirren’s past seven league defeats on home turf have come by either 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 scorelines, though having failed to score in two of their past three at home, they’ll be hard-pressed to register a goal in reply here.

PREDICTION:

RANGERS TO WIN AND UNDER 2.5 GOALS
