Recent Form
After a first domestic defeat of the campaign away at St. Mirren in the League Cup, Rangers recovered well from the set-back with a positive response against Motherwell.
The desire to keep going will have pleased Steven Gerrard against the latter in the 3-1 win, having trailed for the vast majority of the game, though it’s the third time in a row where the Gers have failed to register a clean sheet now.
These two sides met on gameweek two as Rangers ran out 3-0 winners at Ibrox, but St. Johnstone really struggled for output at the beginning of the season, netting just four times across their opening 10 games.
Since then they’ve failed to score just twice in 14 appearances across all competitions, with both teams finding the net in each of the past eight, so they may well have what it takes to add themselves to the short but growing list of teams to score against Rangers this term. Indeed, both teams have scored in 10 of 14 head to heads since 2015/16.
The Saints have only lost twice in 14 appearances across all competitions, and were leading 2-1 away at St. Mirren this past weekend before Jason Kerr’s sending off on the stroke of half time.
They should prove competitive then, but it’s hard to go against the Gers given their irresistible form this season.
Rangers -1 Handicap
Rangers have won each of their past 10 league games and eight of these came by at least a two-goal margin, as the last five have yielded an aggregate 21-2 scoreline.
They’ve also emerged victories by a minimum of two clear strikes in seven of their last 11 road trips in all competitions, with one of those exceptions in a tough fixture away to Benfica in Europe.
The head to heads also suggest the same outcome. Rangers have won five of seven unbeaten meetings with St Johnstone since 2018, with all but one of these games coming under Steven Gerrard, while all but one of those victories came by at least a two-goal margin.
Kemar Roofe To Score Anytime
Unlike last season, where Rangers were dependent upon Alfredo Morelos for output and Jermaine Defoe to fill in on occasion, this time around Steven Gerrard has more depth in the attacking third.
Summer signings Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe provide different options, with the former a target man and the latter dropping deeper to link the play.
However, Roofe gets our nod to find the net here having been the most impressive striker in the ranks of late, bagging six times across their last eight matches in all competitions.
