Recent Form
Rangers got back to winning ways hosting Livingston last weekend, but the 1-0 scoreline was hardly comfortable even if they exercised control over most of the game.
They now face a St. Johnstone side that really should have made it four wins in a row across all competitions at Ross County on Saturday, conceding a 94th-minute equaliser, so they can’t expect to have it easy at McDiarmid Park.
The Saints’ recent form has been all the more impressive as three of those recent four games have come on the road. Back at home they’ve lost just one of their last eight matches now, when an in-form Celtic came to town, but with half these outings ending in stalemates and one of the three victories coming over Championship side Greenock Morton, we wouldn’t want to be too strongly aligned with the hosts for this one.
St. Johnstone +1.25 Asian Handicap
The Gers will be in good spirits having fought back from two goals down midweek to win 3-2 over Sporting Braga at Ibrox, though of course home advantage was always going to be key to any success in Europe this term and especially now we’ve reached the knockouts.
They’ve lost both road trips since the winter break, going down 2-1 at both Hearts and Kilmarnock, so there’s enough breathing room at the prices to side with St. Johnstone on the Asian handicap.
Both Teams To Score
To further our confidence in the Saints is that we do expect them to register on the board at some point too. Both teams have found the net in four of St. Johnstone’s last five in all competitions, as well as six of eight at home in the league as one of the exceptions came when Celtic came to town.
Meanwhile, the same has occurred in four of Rangers’ last five outings across all tournaments, as well as 10 of 14 on the road since October, including each of the past four.
Scott Arfield To Score Anytime
With goals on the agenda, Scott Arfield piques out interest with five in as many games, as he scored in each of these clashes except for their midweek clash with Braga.
Only strikers Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe have netted more goals for Rangers this term, but with the latter injured and the former scoring just once since Boxing Day, we’d plump for the Canadian international over them.
St. Johnstone +1.25 Asian Handicap At 47/50
