There’s no disguising that Spurs have endured a tough time over the past month. They lost two of three Premier League outings, including an atrocious performance as they went down 3-0 away to Brighton last time out.
Moreover, they could only muster a 2-2 draw with Olympiakos and were humiliated 7-2 by Bayern in Europe, while League Two outfit Colchester knocked them out of the League Cup on penalties.
Despite all this and a current position of ninth in the table, they remain within three points of Leicester, Chelsea and Palace, who are 4th, 5th and 6th respectively.
The international break affords them the chance to regroup, while they have the perfect opponents to face in order to get back on track.
Watford prop up the table as the only side yet to win a game this term, scoring the fewest goals in the division and conceding a whopping 20 times already – even if eight of those were supplied by an outrageously gung-ho Man City.
Aside from the kicking Spurs received from the Bavarian giants, each of those negative results came away from home, which has been a recurring theme in 2019 for Mauricio Pochettino’s charges. However, they’ve won three out of four at their new stadium in the league during the current campaign, while last term they won all 10 designated home fixtures against bottom-half finishers by an aggregate score of 23-3.
Spurs will have to make do without captain Hugo Lloris after he suffered a nasty elbow injury last time out, though the World Cup winner hasn’t been at his best in recent times and there is competition to take his place. Free agent Michel Vorm has been re-signed by the club and Paulo Gazzaniga will hope to make his mark, so we’re not convinced that Lloris’ absence will be decisive for the home side.

What should prove critical is Watford’s W1-D1-L12 record against the ‘Big Six’ in the league since the start of last season. Despite racking up the losses however, eight of the 14 games saw both teams find the net, while 12 of them saw a minimum of three goals.
Although captain and striker Troy Deeney remains sidelined, we wouldn’t assume the clean sheet is in the bag for Spurs.
In fact, the hosts have kept just the solitary clean sheet from 10 matches this season in the league and Europe combined. Given Spurs have still been productive at the sharp end at home, the win and over 2.5 goals appeals.
