Recent Form
Goals from Jamie Vardy and Youri Tielemans were enough to overturn Burnley’s one goal lead last weekend, and the Foxes are now sitting pretty in third as rival results went their way.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men put a halt to their three game losing streak with a 1-1 away draw with a rejuvenated Wolves side, though they were helped somewhat by VAR, so the Saints are far from out of the doghouse yet.
Indeed, Southampton are now winless in their last six home games when including the end of last season (D3-L3) and while Leicester have won just one of their last six away, it should be noted that four of these fixtures have come against Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and Man Utd, of which they only went down by a single goal in three, and drew the other so were unlucky not to pick up more points.
They picked up four points against Sheffield United and West Ham in those other such games, while they defeated both Huddersfield and Burnley on the road prior to that as the only two operating bottom six sides they’ve faced under Brendan Rodgers.
Leicester To Win
If the Saints were on their travels for this one it would be a different story as they currently sit fourth in the away table, seven places above this weekend’s opposition, though we’ll have to wait until January to find the result of that one.
On home form alone, however, Southampton would be propping up the table with one point from four games, and would be a point off lowly Watford, so we like the look of Leicester applying pressure on Hassenhuttl’s position at the helm at the prices.
Moreover, both meetings in Southampton between the two sides over the last couple of seasons have gone the way of Leicester, although the hosts did find the net in each of them.
Leicester To Win And Both Teams To Score
Goals at St Mary’s have never been a problem for the Saints under their new manager. The south coast club have scored in all of their 17 home games in all competitions under the current management and have only kept just one clean sheet (against 19th placed Fulham).
What’s more, the Foxes have scored in nine of their 10 matches across all tournaments since their opening day stalemate with Wolves, while only against the Manchester duo have the midlands side failed to register on the road from their 11 road games under Rodgers, so the both teams to score market looks a tasty proposition to couple with the outright.
