Recent Form

Joss Buttler and Dawid Malan blasted England to a series whitewash of South Africa on Tuesday and moved to the top of the T20 world rankings in the process.

The two batsmen hit a remarkable 167 from 96 balls is a record in the T20 format for the highest second-wicket partnership on the international circuit and that will no doubt bode well for the One Day team this Friday.

The teams are unlikely to change too much for this format, although the hosts will have to deal without the pace of Kagiso Rabada for the remainder of this series.

It’s no surprise, therefore, to see England priced up as the favourites off the back of their recent form, but it is worth noting that the top ranked ODI side will be without key players Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and Sam Curran, who all travel home early.

South Africa To Beat England

It was only 10 months ago that the Three Lions toured this South African side and drew the series 1-1. However, Quinton de Kock’s men won by seven wickets in that opening 50-over game here at Newlands, as he led from the front with a century.

At the same time, if we look at England’s recent results in this format, they’ve lost three of their last four matches dating back to early August, being defeat by Australia twice, as well as Ireland in the final game of their series at Rose Bowl.

Furthermore, the hosts whitewashed the Aussies in their ODI series earlier this year and have won 16 of their 19 One Day Internationals at this stadium since 2004, and they look worth getting behind as the underdogs in the outright market.
