Poland Recent Form
Poland haven’t enjoyed the best of times since qualification for the last World Cup finished, with their adventure in Russia cut short at the group stages, followed by relegation from League A in the Nations League.
However, it was always going to be tough for Jerzy Brzeczek’s men up against Italy and eventual winners Portugal, while their form in the current set of qualifiers suggests they’ll revert to type against the average sides of European football.
They’ve won all four games without conceding by a combined scoreline of 8-0, though both victories on their travels finished 1-0 and a similar outcome should be expected here.
Poland To Win 1-0
Slovenia are a dispiriting W2-D6-L7 since Oct 2017, as the two victories came over Montenegro and Latvia, with five 1-1 draws in their last seven fixtures.
However, while they haven’t lost so many games recently, the standard of opposition they’ve faced has been a level below what the Poles can offer and going back to the start of 2016, nine of their 11 defeats have seen them fail to score as seven ended 1-0.
The prospect of that correct score landing is boosted by the likelihood of a low-scoring encounter. Indeed, we certainly wouldn’t expect the visitors to just run away with proceedings, with seven of Slovenia’s last eight matches featuring fewer than three goals, as have nine of Poland’s last 11.
However, the odds surrounding ‘unders’ on its own aren’t all that attractive and are probably best left alone.
Halftime/Fulltime
Aside from their 4-0 win hosting Israel last time out, where they netted a first half strike in the 35th minute, Poland haven’t been quick out of the blocks with their other three victories on their current streak seeing them register Draw/Win doubles in the half-time/full-time market.
In fact, that goal against Israel is their only successful first half effort in seven outings now, while all five goals Slovenia have conceded over their past six games have come during the second period. The visitors may have to be patient, but with the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Krzysztof Piatek up front, they should get their reward in the end.
