Recent Form
Scotland should enjoy the euphoria that comes with qualifying for their first major tournament since 1998, and they can make a good week even better as a win here would guarantee them top spot in their Nations League group with a game to spare.
These are heady times for the Tartan Army then, though Slovakia will also be in good spirits having overcome Northern Ireland on penalties to reach the delayed Euros as well.
Under 2.5 Goals
Slovakia have only picked up one point from their four Nations League matches however. They’re just W1-D5-L4 in all competitions over 90 minutes since October last year, as seven of these saw fewer than three goals, while four of the five stalemates finished 1-1.
It would hardly be surprising if this was another low-scorer, especially with five of Scotland’s last six matches featuring a maximum of two goals, including a 1-0 win for Steve Clarke’s men in the reverse fixture.
Scotland Draw No Bet
Scotland have some momentum behind them now and are unbeaten in nine matches, winning six of these in normal time and another two on penalties.
Given extra time with Israel and Serbia yielded no goals, that means there have been just four strikes in 420 minutes of action across their last four outings.
Steve Clarke’s side kept clean sheets in three of these matches, though each shutout came at Hampden Park.
Away from home, Scotland have only registered two clean sheets in 11 trips, coming against Albania and San Marino, so while we expect a low-scoring affair, we wouldn’t be comfortable backing the away clean sheet.
However, although Slovakia do hold some home advantage in Trnava, aside from the questionable edge given the lack of fans in the stadium, they’ve only won once in seven in front of their own fans over 90 minutes (W1-D3-L3) since September 2019.
That sole win was garnered over Azerbaijan, so their visitors appear a solid proposition draw no bet.
Ryan Christie To Score Anytime
Scotland don’t have many established goalscorers in the squad but one man who has made a difference in recent fixtures in undeniably Ryan Christie.
The Celtic midfielder found the breakthrough against Serbia on Thursday and now has four goals in five appearances for the national side, as three of these came on the road,
That includes goals in both Nations League matches he’s played, so appears the pick of the bunch with numerous players at shorter odds to score. Given three of his four Scotland goals have been the opener, we’ll back him to draw first blood.
0.5pts: Under 2.5 Goals At 8/11
0.5pts: Ryan Christie First Goalscorer At 13/2
