Recent Form
A rampant Watford side managed to beat Man Utd 2-0 at Vicarage Road last time out and now they’ll be full of confidence coming into this Boxing Day fixture.
However, so will their opponents, who jumped up to fifth place following their win on the south coast at the Amex Stadium at the weekend.
Having gone on a run of three draws from four winless matches between 9th November and 5th December, Sheffield Utd have managed to win all three of their outings since that run.
In fact, even that winless streak saw them produce stalemates with Spurs, Man Utd and Wolves, which is hardly a bad set of results and they’ll be ecstatic of where they currently sit in the league.
That recent immaculate record all came against teams currently in the bottom half of the table, with Brighton the highest ranked amongst them, whilst the other two currently sit in the relegation zone – Aston Villa and Norwich.
Chris Wilder will be encouraged by the fact his side face another of the bottom-three sides this Thursday, but the Hornets looked very impressive last time out and so we doubt this will be a walk in the park.
Ismaila Sarr and Gerard Deulofeu ran the show from the wings as they caused the Red Devils’ backline no end of problems, while Troy Deeney put himself about up front, making this a hard one to call.
However, considering over half the hosts’ points this season have come on the road, we feel like they may be worth taking on at Bramall Lane given the prices.
Watford +1 Handicap
Indeed, they’ve won only three of their last eight matches here, losing half of them as even the likes of Southampton and Newcastle got the better of them.
Watford meanwhile, have gone W1-D1-L2 since Quique Sanchez Flores was given his marching orders, as those defeats came against Liverpool and Leicester, whilst a stalemate with Palace is nothing to be ashamed of.
At the prices the visitors look worth getting behind on the handicap, as they have seemed to have turned a corner under Nigel Pearson.
He of course led Leicester to a great escape the year before their title-winning season and we don’t believe his new side should be as big underdogs as they currently are.
