It’s been a wonderful first season back in the Premier League for Chris Wilder’s side, though they’ve gone off the boil a bit since the break having picked up just one point from three matches.
With that, the fairy-tale of Champions League football may have just slipped away from their grasp, though they’re very much in the running for this competition and they’ll face Arsenal for a spot in the semis.
The Gunners have fallen by the wayside a bit this season and sit in ninth place, one point behind their opponents in the league.
A 2-0 win over Southampton was their first win on the road in eight league games, and just their fifth way clean sheet since the beginning of last season, though in this competition that record doesn’t translate.
Including extra-time and penalties, the Gunners have now won 12 of their last 13 FA cup road trips dating back to late January 2013, scoring at least twice in 12 and kept a clean sheet in five of their last eight.
Although the impact hasn’t been too drastic, Mikel Arteta is definitely beginning to make his mark and with very little to play for this season in the league, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him go gung ho in the FA Cup.
Arsenal To Beat Sheffield United
Sheffield United have done well to reach this far in the competition, but they’re yet to face any worthy opposition yet having dispatched Fylde and Millwall by respective 2-1 and 2-0 scorelines, then they edged passed Championship side Reading via penalties and Arsenal will be a step up from those sides.
If Chris Wilder’s men had some form to call on, we’d probably rethink this bet, but the newly promoted side are showing real signs of rustiness, and the North London club’s record in this competition gives us enough to get behind them, especially at such a long price.
Alexandre Lacazette was left out of the starting XI against Southampton in midweek for the young Eddie Nketiah and will likely feature from the off in this clash.
However, the French International hasn’t scored on the road domestically since February last year, and it’s a big gamble to get behind him to break his duck here.
It’s unclear who Wilder and Arteta are going to opt with from the get-go, so we’ll reserve a goalscorer bet for another time.
