Recent Form
A defeat for Scotland against Denmark during the week wasn’t exactly the most surprising of results.
Indeed, the two sides had very different experiences at the most recent major tournament, Euro 2020, as the Danes made it all the way to the semis while the Scots crashed out in the group stage without winning a single game.
However, it’s clear to see that this fixture will be somewhat easier for them and you’d expect them to put an end to their winless run.
Moldova are currently 175th in FIFA’s World Rankings and have seriously struggled to make an impression on the football world.
They’ve never qualified as their own entity for either the World Cup or Euros and they’ll be in for another tough qualification process you’d imagine this time around.
A record of W8-D8-L45 from their last 64 qualification and Nations League matches dating back to September 2010 is woeful, especially when you consider that seven of those eight defeats came against San Marino (x6) and Andorra.
In fact, against the top 75 in the rankings, they’ve lost 24 games on the bounce by an aggregate scoreline of 5-67 since October 2015.
Scotland To Win To Nil
Although Scotland are winless in four outings now they did manage a stalemate against the Three Lions in the group stage of that major tournament at Wembley.
Against the teams ranked outside the top 100 at the time of playing them we can see that the Tartan Army have won all their last five home games by an aggregate scoreline of 17-2, and they should cruise to victory again against such inferior opposition.
Scotland -2 Handicap
That includes at least two goals in each of those home matches and we’d certainly expect them to at least match that this Saturday.
In fact, their only such result against a relative minnow this year came when playing the Faroe Islands at Hampden Park and we can certainly see this one being a similar scoreline with the defence holding strong.
At near full strength, Steve Clarke can be confident of getting his side back on track this qualification and perhaps do what no Scotland manager since 1998 has done, and qualify for the World Cup.
They currently sit in fourth place behind Denmark, Israel and Austria, but with the latter two sides playing one another next, they can make a charge further up the table you’d imagine.
