A Must Win Game For The Scots
This has the feel of a must win game for Scotland if they’re to qualify from the groups, though failure to do so wouldn’t be the end of the road for their Euro 2020 ambitions.
Victory in Group C1 during the Nations League has left the back door open via the play-offs, while there’s greater positivity surrounding the national side under Steve Clarke, sorely needed after the dismal performances offered up by predecessor Alex McLeish.
Russia In Great Form
As expected, Russia lost away at Belgium in their first qualifier, but they’ve been excelling since then and possess the best goal difference in Group I following 4-0, 9-0 and 1-0 victories over Kazakhstan (A), San Marino (H) and Cyprus (H) respectively.
Those teams are not world beaters however, and though the Tartan Army witnessed their side going down 3-0 away in Kazakhstan, we’re a little surprised to see these two at nearly the same price.
Scotland have been fairly consistent in competitive home matches, winning six of nine unbeaten games since a defeat to Germany four years ago.
Meanwhile, it’s certainly true that Stanislav Cherchesov’s men have benefited from home support at the last World Cup, with that tournament a final hurrah for some of its old timers.
Both Teams To Score
Indeed, Russia have won six of their past nine games over 90 minutes on home turf, losing only once, whereas they’ve only registered three victories on their travels since the start of 2016.
There does however remain some attacking talent in the shape of Monaco’s Aleksandr Golovin, Valencia’s Denis Cheryshev, as well as forwards Artem Dzyuba and Fyodor Smolov. Likewise, Scotland are better equipped at the sharp end, with the squad boasting the likes of Steven Naismith, Matt Phillips, Oli McBurnie, Ryan Fraser, James Forrest and Robert Snodgrass.
Given Scotland have failed to keep a clean sheet in six of their last seven home games, coming against Albania, while Russia have demonstrated considerable firepower, we can see both sides registering on the board here.
Both Teams To Score(Yes) At 11/10
