What Happened On The Weekend
Rovers head into this midweek Carabao Cup tie on the back of an entertaining win at the Mem on Saturday over Oxford Utd. That means they’ve won three straight matches on home turf as they beat both Tranmere Rovers and Cheltenham Town, although those victories did sandwich a loss on the road to a more competitive Coventry.
Meanwhile, Brighton were defeated by a Southampton side that had lost both their opening two encounters of the season, but the Saints did enjoy a numerical advantage after just the 30th minute, when Florin Andone was sent off.

The Pirates have been ticking along nicely this season with their current 12th place a few superior to what they managed last term. It was current manager Graham Coughlan that earnt them that place though, as old boss Darrell Clarke went on a run of seven defeats from 10 matches before being sacked in December 2018.

The visitors’ record in this competition is mediocre at best in recent seasons as they’ve failed to advance past the third round in each of their past four attempts, while they’ve been knocked out during the second round (the current stage) in both 2015/16 and last year.
Moreover, new boss Graham Potter lost his only game in charge during this competition at Swansea last term, when they went 1-0 down to Crystal Palace, so they might be worth taking on.
