Recent Form

Although Real Madrid lost their big clash in Paris and dropped points at home to Club Brugge, Galatasaray have struggled even more as their sole point has come against the latter outfit.

The Turkish side are yet to actually register a goal, though they have at least been secure defensively with the only two strikes they’ve shipped coming in 1-0 losses to both PSG and their Spanish opponents for this one.

The visitors are all the way down in seventh place in the Turkish Super Lig, though only three points adrift of Alanyaspor at the head of the table, their lack of output has been startling.

In fact, while they possess the best defensive record in the division, as many as 11 sides in the 18-team league have outgunned them at the sharp end.

That means that since September, nine of their 10 matches across all competitions have featured fewer than three goals, as seven of them saw just one strike or none at all.

Under 2.5 Goals

This trend for low-scoring encounters is nothing new to the Turkish side away from domestic action, with eight of their past 10 European outings also witnessing a maximum of two strikes.

They didn’t enjoy much success either, losing seven of 10 winless matches as they drew a blank on eight occasions, while five of the last eight have seen them trail at both half-time and full-time – including the reverse of this fixture.

Los Blancos haven’t experienced so many low-scoring affairs, but in large part that’s down to their shoddy defensive efforts and we’re unconvinced that Galatasaray will be a team to take advantage.

Indeed, it’s worth noting that only Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao have conceded fewer goals in La Liga this term.

However, Real have seen a reduced goal tally ever since Cristiano Ronaldo departed for Juventus, which we’d expect to contribute towards another game that produces fairly limited action in the final third.

Real Madrid To Win To Nil

The numbers are pretty stark. Real failed to score in 46 of 519 matches in all competitions over the nine seasons Ronaldo was at the club (9%).

In 2018-19, they failed to score in 13 of 57 matches in all competitions (23%), while this term they’ve done the same in an alarming four of 14 (29%).

The most recent example came this weekend as they were held to a goalless stalemate by bottom-half outfit Real Betis at the Bernabeu, even if Eden Hazard was unlucky as he had a goal ruled out by VAR after straying marginally offside.

Gareth Bale has fallen out of favour, Eden Hazard (exciting and dangerous as he can be) has never been a player to hit 50 goals a season, while fellow summer recruit Luka Jovic has struggled to get a look in.

However, as ever with Madrid there are individuals capable of brilliance taking to the field. Galatasaray’s recent record in Europe combined with their paucity of goals should ensure the hosts take the spoils, and with four of Real’s last five victories accompanied by clean sheets, the win to nil should pay out.
