St. Mirren may be affected by a rising number of covid cases in the camp, but they held firm to bring Celtic back down to earth after their cup final win, grinding out a goalless stalemate against the Hoops on Wednesday.
Goalkeeper Dean Lyness was in inspired form, thwarting Ange Postecoglou’s side despite their 31 shots in that clash.
Still, St. Mirren are winless in 10 matches now. Although they drew six of these, Rangers have enjoyed a rare break with no midweek fixture, and should be chomping at the bit to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Rangers’ title win last term was built on a rock-solid defence and although they lost their way a little this season, especially with Filip Helander having missed so much of the campaign, they’ve rediscovered their groove.
Left-back Calvin Bassey has usurped Leon Balogun in the pecking order alongside Connor Goldson in the heart of defence, while Nathan Patterson showed his versatility last time out to play at left-back, which alongside James Tavernier and Borna Barisic in the squad, means that the Gers’ defensive options are looking sharp again.
Rangers have kept clean sheets in six of their eight games under new management, and excluding their clash with Lyon in the Europa League, it’s now five shutouts on the bounce domestically.
St. Mirren certainly aren’t one of the division’s top scorers with just 18 goals scored from 19 league games so far, so another clean sheet for the hosts appears inevitable.
Rangers To Win 2-0
Seven of St. Mirren’s past eight games have seen fewer than three goals, as they themselves failed to score in five of these, so it would be a surprise if they can find a way past Rangers’ rearguard in its current imperious state.
The Gers haven’t been especially prolific in attack however, with each of their past three outings seeing them win by 1-0 or 2-0 scorelines.
Rangers have won without conceding in eight of 10 meetings with St. Mirren since 2018/19, with five of these ending either 1-0 or 2-0.
