Rangers took another step closer to the title without even playing at the weekend as Celtic’s self-implosion continued, with the Hoops losing one of their spare games in hand to St. Mirren.
Any notion of a title race was already long gone however and the Gers are only competing with themselves at this stage, as they seek records to go along with the inevitable silverware.
Steven Gerrard’s men have now won 23 of 26 unbeaten games this term, including 17 of the last 18, though only one of the past five appearances has seen them win by more than a single goal (against second-from-bottom Ross County).
However, three of these were on the road and they’re far more prolific at Ibrox, where only top-four outfits Hibernian and Celtic have prevented them from winning by a greater margin this term from 12 appearances.
Rangers To Win To Nil
Although Rangers lead the way for output, it’s their astonishing defensive record that has grabbed headlines with just seven goals conceded this season.
They’ve let in a solitary strike across those 12 home games as they won them all, so the win to nil as ever holds obvious appeal. Indeed, St. Johnstone have failed to score in 12 of 14 defeats on the road since 2019.
St. Johnstone shouldn’t be underestimated after extending their unbeaten run to seven in all competitions at the weekend, but victory away at Kilmarnock was just their third win on the road in the league this term, as they’re yet to win away to a side outside the bottom four.
Still, both teams have scored in their last eight trips in the top flight, so the win to nil appears a little risky here.
Rangers -1 Handicap
Rangers have won three of four unbeaten clashes with St. Johnstone since the start of last season, as each victory came by a minimum three-goal goal margin.
Both encounters in the current campaign have finished 3-0 and although the win to nil is likely to land, the handicap looks a safer bet.
The Gers also benefit from a rare week without a game, having last played on Wednesday, while there’s not a lot going on in the treatment room at present with Scott Arfield closing in on a return.
Nikola Katic has spent the entire season out injured and George Edmundson remains unavailable, though has only featured once this season in a Europa League qualifier and wouldn’t have been involved in any case.
Callum Davidson has no concerns in the opposite dugout, so we wouldn’t expect the team news to play any role here.
