It turns out that Rangers are in fact beatable and their League Cup quarter final defeat away at St. Mirren was a real missed opportunity for silverware, with Celtic already out knocked out during the previous round.
It was however a first defeat in 27 appearances across all competitions as Rangers won 22 of these games, registering 19 clean sheets along the way, with 17 of these victories coming by at least two clear goals.
Motherwell looks like a kind fixture to bounce back from. Stephen Robinson’s side are currently enduring a run of four defeats from five winless outings in all competitions since the start of November, including 4-1 and 3-0 defeats to Celtic and third-placed Hibernian respectively in the most difficult fixtures they faced over this recent spell.
It’s worth noting that each of those four defeats came at Fir Park, while Motherwell’s away form has been fairly good in recent months. However, they haven’t been faultless on their travels either and have suffered 3-0 defeats to both Celtic and Hapoel Be’er Sheva in Europe on the road this term.
Rangers -2 Handicap
In fact, Motherwell’s record against the Old Firm duo leaves a lot to be desired. They’ve lost 12 of 14 winless attempts home or away since 2018/19, with all but one of those defeats coming by at least two clear goals, and nine coming by a minimum margin of three.
The Gers had won their previous 10 domestic games before their midweek shock to the system, conceding just twice across these, while they’ve been rampant since early November with the last five of these won by an aggregate 22-1 scoreline.
Home advantage will also be helpful to Steven Gerrard’s men here. They’ve won 11 of 12 unbeaten matches at Ibrox in all competitions this term, with the exception when welcoming Benfica in Europe.
All eight of their league games on home turf have been won by at least two goals, with five of them coming by a minimum margin of three, and we’d back the latter given the visitors record against the Old Firm duo.
Connor Goldson To Score Anytime
Gerrard will be without Alfredo Morelos after he was banned for violent conduct, but the Colombian striker hasn’t been at his best this season in any case.
One man who does stand out at the prices however is centre-back Connor Goldson, who has made a fine habit of scoring goals from set plays.
His opener against St. Mirren was the second game in a row where’s he’s found the net, taking his tally to three in five matches now, while he has seven in all competitions so far this season.
