Rangers look the real deal this season and absolutely thrashed a hapless Hamilton 8-0 before the international break.
They’re now W17-D3-L1 across all competitions since the season started in August, with all four times they failed to win coming away from home, including trips to Leverkusen and Benfica in Europe.
Rangers To Win To Nil
The most remarkable feature of Rangers’ run has been their impregnable defence. Excluding those two difficult Europa League games, as well as a further clash with Galatasaray, Steven Gerrard’s men have registered 16 clean sheets from 18 appearances.
They had six consecutive 1-0 or 2-0 wins before their last two outings against Benfica and rock-bottom Hamilton, while they triumphed 1-0 on the opening day of the season when visiting Aberdeen.
The Dons are third in the table and have scored more goals than anyone beyond the Old Firm duo, but they’ve failed to net in four of their last five clashes with Rangers.
They’ve hardly been prolific away from Pittodrie recently, drawing a blank in a 2-0 defeat at Hampden Park against Celtic in cup action, being held to a goalless stalemate at Dundee Utd in the league and going down 1-0 away at Sporting CP in Europe.
They did manage a 3-0 victory at Ross County, though it’s worth noting their hosts that day went down to 10 men with half an hour still to play.
Under 2.5 Goals
With Galatasaray the sole team to score past Rangers at Ibrox in nine matches this term, the home win to nil holds obvious appeal. However, don’t expect Rangers to simply run away with proceedings.
Eight of 11 head to heads in all competitions since Gerrard rocked up in Glasgow have seen fewer than three goals, while away or at neutral venues, six of Aberdeen’s seven matches this term have seen a maximum of two strikes.
Rangers To Win 2-0
However, it’s unlikely that Rangers will misfire and they’ve scored at least twice in eight of those nine home games this term. Home or away, half of their last 10 league matches have finished 2-0, and they’re not just reliant on Alfredo Morelos for goals these days with the likes of Ryan Kent, Kemar Roofe, James Tavernier, Joe Aribo and Jermaine Defoe all chipping in.
In a further boost to Rangers’ chances, Aberdeen will also be without defensive midfielder Ross McCrorie.
He penned a four-year deal with the club in August, but the first year is on loan and so he can’t feature against his parent club.
