Defeat here for the Sunrisers would leave them with a mountain to climb if they want to make the playoffs, and they’re not exactly coming into this clash with the kind of form that they’d have hoped for, losing three on the bounce including their last clash with the Royals.
Jos Buttler came into his own in the Royals' last outing against CSK, hitting 70 not out off 48 deliveries to keep his side well in the hunt for a top half finish.
The decision to move Robin Uthappa up the order and bring Buttler down to the middle proved to be inspired and we’d expect the same approach this time against an out of sorts Sunrisers.
The re-jig will allow Uthappa, Ben Stokes and Sanju Samson to play more freely and securely in the knowledge that Steve Smith and Buttler can bring it home, and you’d be brave to bet against the Royals doing so with a lineup like that.
While the bowling attack had a field day against CSK, the Sunrisers are still in the hunt and won’t be pushed around so easily.
Royals To Beat The Sunrisers
The trouble with the Sunrisers this season is that they are too reliant on David Warner and Jonny Bairstow, and when either of them fall early, they seem to lack a sufficient plan B, especially now that Kane Williamson is likely to miss this match through injury which will expose their weak middle order.
Warner may well be deployed in the middle order again where he very nearly led his side to victory last time out, though in truth when a batting lineup relies heavily on just one or two standout players, an order reshuffle can be a massive risk.
All things considered, the Royals should edge this with form on their side, while without Williamson the Sunrisers have the inferior batting lineup, and the likes of Jofra Archer can cause some damage.
