Problems On And Off The Pitch For Both

Two European giants go head-to-head in the Champions Cup once again, although only this time around their situations are a little bit different.

Saracens find themselves in disaster following the backlash from their salary cap breach and they’ll likely have to field a much-weakened outfit in Europe in order to try claw their 35-point deduction back in the English Premiership.

Racing 92 have problems of their own though as they currently sit down in ninth place domestically having gone W3-D1-L5 from their opening nine matches in the French Top 14.

That’s been made worse by the fallout with Fijian international and star player Leone Nakarawa, who will likely miss this clash through suspension having returned a full two weeks late from the World Cup.

However, the French outfit welcomed back the return of their World Cup stars Finn Russell, Maxime Machenaud, Virmi Vakatawa last weekend as they romped to a convincing 25-9 win in the Paris Derby.

Teddy Thomas To Score Anytime

The biggest star this campaign for the sky blue and whites has been Teddy Thomas. His talent was on show for France in the 2018 Six Nations when he scored against Ireland before backing that up with a brace against Scotland at Murrayfield, though a scandal on their night out meant he fell out of favour and was dropped by Jacques Brunel.

It looks like Les Bleus could’ve done with him at the World Cup too as he’s been lighting up the Top 14 this season. He has five tries, registered 10 clean breaks and beaten 14 defenders from his four matches so far, as he touched down for a hattrick last time out and he’ll no doubt be raring to go on the European stage.

Saracens Winning Without World Cup Stars

The visitors have been getting results this season even without their international stars Jamie George, Vincent Koch, Mako Vunipola, Maro Itoje, George Kruis and Owen Farrell to name a few.

They’ve won three of their four matches, as their sole defeat came at the hands of an impressive Northampton side and even without their array of top-quality players, they’ll still no doubt make a game of this.

A concern for backing Racing 92, although this looks the perfect opportunity for them to turn it around, would be the dominance the English side have shown down the years in the head-to-heads.

Saracens have won all four of their meetings since 2012 and although they haven’t faced each other since that 2015/16 Champions Cup final in Lyon, they still won that by a convincing 21-9.

With that in mind, their current price looks a shade too short for us and we’ll avoid getting behind either side here.
