Striker Regrets

Speaking exclusively to Genting, he said:

“When you’ve got a player like that, they can give you another option, you can mix up your

game.

“For example, with Lukaku, if at the beginning you try to play good football and your opponent is stronger than you, you can go long and give your team the opportunity to push forward because Lukaku can keep the ball and he’s very strong in the air.”

It’s this lack of a Plan B that the 84-cap Frenchman believes could be an issue for Guardiola over the course of the season.

“The problem for City is that they don’t have that option, they just have the option to play their short passing style and possession football,” he explained.

“They don’t really have players who go and run into the channels.

“Sometimes, like against Southampton the other weekend, they can over play with too many passes.

“Before they arrive in front of the goal they have to do so many passes.”

Focal Point Of Attack

Having that focal point in attack would, in Gallas’ opinion, give Manchester City another route to goal.

“With players like Harry Kane or Lukaku, after maybe four or five passes, you can be in front of goal,” he said.

“Without them you have to bring the ball in the box.”

Kane On City's Radar For January

With the clock already ticking down towards the January transfer window, there is an expectation that Tottenham’s No10 will again be the main focus for City.

The ‘will he – won’t he’ rumours certainly didn’t help the Spurs star in the lead-up to the new season, after such a positive summer captaining his country at Euro 2020.

But if there was going to be one destination in England where you could see the three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner ending up at, it is the Etihad.

However, Gallas believes the Citizens should only go in for Kane again if they know they are struggling in the title race.

He said: “Maybe they will have to [bid for Kane] depending on where they are in the table after the first half of the season.

“Maybe they will wait for the summer, but if they are not in the top three they will know they have a problem and maybe they have to buy one striker.”
