With the Premier League transfer window now open, who will be the big movers and shakers during the summer?

Premier League Transfer Window

Declan Rice

It is anticipated Declan Rice will depart from West Ham during the upcoming summer transfer window. Numerous top clubs in the Premier League have shown interest in the Conference League winner, but recent reports suggest that he has a particular preference for one club.

According to journalist Jacob Steinberg, Rice is favouring a move to Arsenal, who finished second in the Premier League. He is reportedly enticed by the opportunity to play under the management of Mikel Arteta. Arsenal have identified the English international as their primary target for the summer transfer window and are considering a potential £80 million bid.

At 24 years old, Rice is widely regarded as one of the finest midfielders in England. However, Arsenal will face significant competition in their pursuit of his signature, as other clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City may also enter the race.

While the January transfer saga involving Mykhaylo Mudryk may have taught Arsenal a valuable lesson, it is encouraging news for Arteta that Rice expresses a desire to join him at the Emirates Stadium for the upcoming season.

Bernardo Silva

Despite the insistence of Jack Grealish, it is reported Bernardo Silva has reiterated his desire to leave Manchester City during the upcoming summer transfer window. Despite his contract with City running until 2025, the 28-year-old midfielder has expressed his intention to seek new challenges elsewhere.

Silva played a crucial role in Manchester City's remarkable treble, particularly impressing in their Champions League campaign. Notably, he scored a brace in the emphatic 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in the second leg of the heavyweight semi-final. The Champions League triumph against Inter in the final marked Silva's 14th trophy with the club since joining in May 2017. City paid Monaco over £60 million, including performance-related add-ons, to secure his services.

However, despite City's consistent success over the past six years, Silva's future at the club has become increasingly uncertain. In August 2022, amid strong links to Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, he admitted to being content at City but expressed uncertainty about what the future holds. In September 2022, it was reported that Barcelona considered Silva one of their priority transfer targets and even made an unsuccessful enquiry in January.

Silva had previously informed City of his intention to seek a new challenge, and it is now understood that he has reaffirmed his desire to depart this summer. City is reportedly open to conducting business, provided they receive an offer in the region of £75 million.

Moises Caicedo

Despite being in the final stages of securing a move for Declan Rice, Arsenal are reportedly poised to pursue Moises Caicedo as well.

With Granit Xhaka set to leave the Gunners this summer, renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed via a tweet that the Swiss midfielder will be departing the club. It was widely speculated that Rice's anticipated transfer from West Ham to Arsenal would fill the void left by Xhaka. However, recent developments suggest that the situation might be different.

According to reports, Arsenal's pursuit of West Ham United captain Rice is progressing rapidly. Simultaneously, there appears to be a potential move for Moises Caicedo in the works. A source shared with Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips that Arsenal have a bid prepared for Caicedo, independent of the Rice deal. The report also indicates that Arsenal is currently in a strong financial position, with Chelsea looking to compete with their London rivals for the signature of the Brighton midfielder.

If both midfielders were to join, it is speculated that Caicedo could be deployed in a right-back role, similar to Thomas Partey's positional shift in the latter stages of the previous season. The additional depth could be a consideration for manager Mikel Arteta as Arsenal competes on multiple fronts in the upcoming season.

Harry Maguire

Newcastle United have been informed they must pursue a permanent transfer if they wish to acquire Harry Maguire from Manchester United.

According to reports, the Magpies are eager to secure the defender's services on a loan deal. However, they have been informed that Manchester United will only consider a permanent transfer. Maguire has reportedly been given permission to leave Old Trafford if the terms of the deal are satisfactory, but Manchester United is hesitant to allow him to join a direct competitor in the same division without any financial benefit.

Nevertheless, if Newcastle were to present a cash offer, the possibility of a transfer may be entertained. Aston Villa has also expressed interest in acquiring Maguire and might have a better chance of securing a loan deal. Tottenham Hotspur is another club that has shown interest in the player.

Leicester City, Maguire's former club, had previously shown interest in re-signing him. However, their relegation from the Premier League has rendered that possibility no longer viable.

Harry Kane

Reports suggest that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have emerged as a potential destination for Harry Kane this summer.

The star striker from Tottenham Hotspur has just one year left on his contract with the North London club. At 29 years old, Kane has shown little inclination to extend his stay at his childhood club, which has caught the attention of top clubs across Europe.

Manchester United has identified Kane as one of their main targets for the summer transfer window, and the player is reportedly open to a move to Old Trafford.

In the event that Tottenham is compelled to sell Kane, they would prefer to offload him to a foreign club.

While Real Madrid was initially linked with a potential swoop for Kane, with manager Carlo Ancelotti reportedly prioritising the Englishman, the situation could change if Kylian Mbappe's future at PSG becomes uncertain. Real Madrid may shift their focus to signing Mbappe instead.

According to reports in France, Kane's representatives recently held an informal conversation with PSG's transfer chief, Luis Campos. The meeting suggests that discussions have taken place regarding the future of the England captain.

Mason Mount

Manchester United are anticipated to soon submit a formal bid for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, although there remains a disparity in valuation between the two clubs.

Ongoing discussions are taking place between Manchester United and Chelsea regarding the 24-year-old, who is under contract until June 2024.

Manchester United has a specific price in mind for Mount and is not willing to exceed it, considering that the player will enter the final year of his current contract. In the event that the transfer does not materialise, the club has alternative targets, including the aforementioned Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion, in whom they have held a longstanding interest.

It is understood that Manchester United has expressed a desire to be kept updated on any developments regarding the highly sought-after 21-year-old Caicedo's future.

James Maddison

Despite new Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou showing interest in Leicester midfielder James Maddison, Newcastle United are currently leading the race to sign him, ahead of Tottenham.

Leicester City have made it known that Maddison will be sold this summer following their relegation, prompting interest from several clubs. Spurs have expressed their interest in the 26-year-old as they seek to bolster their midfield with a creative playmaker.

Postecoglou is believed to have given Tottenham the go-ahead to pursue Maddison. However, it is Newcastle who are currently considered the frontrunners in securing the signing of the talented midfielder.

Newcastle can offer Maddison the prospect of Champions League football next season, and they believe he would be open to the idea of making a move to the North East.

Spurs would face a challenge in persuading Maddison to choose them over a potential move to Newcastle. The Magpies are confident that their interest in the player is more advanced, having identified him as a target several months ago.

Leicester City are demanding a transfer fee of approximately £45 million for Maddison, who has only one year remaining on his current contract.
