Manchester City 5-0 Arsenal
City were already 2-0 up by the time Granit Xhaka was sent off for a two-footed lunge on Joao Cancelo.
Pep Guardiola’s side strolled to victory at the Etihad, adding three further goals against a limp Arsenal who sit bottom of the league having conceded nine goals in their opening three games.
City are on fire after an opening day defeat at Spurs, and this was the third home league game in a row they have won 5-0.
Liverpool 1-1 Chelsea
The most controversial VAR decision of the weekend took place at Anfield where Chelsea defender Reece James was dismissed for handball on the line.
The Blues were already leading through Kai Havertz’s fine flicked header when James handled a goalbound header, leaving Mohamed Salah to convert the resulting penalty.
Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-1 Manchester United
Wolves were left frustrated by their profligacy and Paul Pogba’s foul in the build-up to Mason Greenwood’s late winner.
New boss Bruno Lage is still winless and pointless after Pogba’s foul on Joao Moutinho was missed by referee Mike Dean and the VAR. But Greenwood played to the whistle and scored his third goal in as many games.
Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Watford
A Son Heung-min free-kick was enough to give Spurs the win, making them the only Premier League side with a perfect record after three games.
They’ve won each of their games 1-0 and top this early table.
Harry Kane started his first game of the season after declaring his commitment to the North Londoners.
West Ham 2-2 Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace claimed their first goals and point under new boss Patrick Vieira thanks to Conor Gallagher’s double.
West Ham went in front after good interplay between Michail Antonio and Pablo Fornals before Fornals finished.
Chelsea loanee Gallagher equalised before Antonio rifled a left-footed shot past Vicente Guaita. But a great finish from Gallagher levelled the scores again, securing a brace for himself and a point for Palace.
Brighton & Hove Albion 0-2 Everton
Even Richarlison’s unhappiness at having to give a penalty to teammate Dominic Calvert-Lewin could not upset Rafa Benitez’s impressive start as Everton manager.
Demarai Gray opened the scoring, further reinforcing the shrewd nature of his £1.7m arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.
Brazilian forward Richarlison tried to take penalty duties from designated taker Calvert-Lewin, but the latter eventually tucked the kick away to seal maximum points.
Norwich 1-2 Leicester City
Kenny McLean’s late header was ruled out for offside against Todd Cantwell, denying Norwich a first point of the season.
Jame Vardy and Marc Albrighton scored either side of Teemu Pukki’s penalty but the Canaries looked to have nicked a point when McLean headed home.
But the Scot’s header was ruled out for offside.
Aston Villa 1-1 Brentford
Emiliano Buendia scored his first Villa goal to secure a point against newly-promoted Brentford.
It came just minutes after Ivan Toney had given the Bees the lead with his first strike since hitting 33 en-route to promotion last term.
Newcastle United 2-2 Southampton
Newcastle were denied their first win of the season when VAR ruled Jamaal Lascelles had fouled Toon old-boy Adam Armstrong at the death.
Allan Saint-Maximin scored in the 91st minute to make it 2-1 after Mohamed Elyounoussi cancelled out Callum Wilson’s opener.
But Lascelles’ foul gave James Ward-Prowse the chance to equalise from the spot, and the Saints skipper duly obliged.
Burnley 1-1 Leeds United
Patrick Bamford celebrated his first England call-up by scoring in a physical draw at Turf Moor.
The former Burnley loanee said James Tarkowski “tried to do some weird ju-jitsu thing” in one tussle, but he stood up to the test to cancel out Chris Wood’s opener against his old club.
