End of Season Fixtures:Premier League Betting Preview

Manchester City look to finish off the season with 100 points, as Swansea will need to attack against Stoke

The final day of the Premier League season is often filled with drama. Unfortunately, after Huddersfield’s draw against Chelsea, there is very little to play for as big gaps in goal differences have made the top 4 and relegation places all but certain. However, with players looking to take good form into the World Cup, there are plenty of tempting avenues to keep things interesting on Sunday.

With Chelsea’s victory over Liverpool and Huddersfield’s tricky run of fixtures to finish the year, there was great anticipation that the Premier League would throw up another drama filled final day. Unfortunately, after the midweek fixture list there appears to be little of significance to play for. Liverpool need just a point at home to Brighton to effectively secure a top 4 place – they have a 15-goal buffer in goal difference over Chelsea – and even with a victory over Stoke and a Southampton loss, Swansea will need to make up a 9-goal difference to avoid the drop.

Sunday will also see a legend of the Premier League – Arsene Wenger – manage his final game for Arsenal. They travel to Huddersfield, who after a draw midweek have secured their safety in the Premier League for another year. After a disappointing loss to Leicester on Wednesday night, the Arsenal team will surely look to send their manager out on a high and secure a victory over a team with nothing to play for and potentially on a slight comedown after jubilant celebrations at Chelsea.

With a World Cup this summer, many players will be looking to build up some good form and potentially make a last-minute claim for a place on the flight to Russia. The goal scorer market should present a good opportunity to make money and create a rooting interest in many dead rubber games.

Swansea to increase Stoke misery

After their relegation was confirmed last weekend, rumours have turned to facts about the disgruntled Stoke squad, with Charlie Adam coming out in an interview stating many players were simply not up for the relegation fight. With Swansea holding onto the slightest hope of safety it may be a rough Sunday for Stoke. At 5/6, a Swansea win feels like a very safe bet to come in on the weekend. If those odds don’t seem daring enough for you, betting on there being over 5.5 goals at 8/1 may just be worth a flutter, as Swansea need to overturn a large goal difference gap to Southampton who host a Man City side hoping to reach 100 points.

Last chance for goals

Sunday represents the final time for strikers to add to their goal tallies for the year. Charlie Austin – who currently has the second best minutes per goal rate amongst English players at 138 mins/goal – will look to get his name on the scoresheet for the first time in over a month and at 6/1 to score first, represents great value.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been amongst the goals since his January move to Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund. His 9 goals have come at a rate of a goal every 110 mins and it would seem a good bet he’ll finish the season on a high with goals against Huddersfield. Him grabbing two or more goals at 11/4 could well be worth a look as the Gabonese striker plays his last competitive game until next season, after his nation missed out on World Cup qualification.
