Mo Salah is chasing yet more history, as with three goals at Stamford Bridge he would tie the Premier League single season goal record jointly held by legends Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.
Liverpool need either a draw or a win to secure a top 4 finish for a second consecutive year and firmly establish themselves as a top Premier League club once again under Klopp. Meanwhile, Antonio Conte looks to salvage what many believe to be a lost season for Chelsea and perhaps his job. The Italian’s Chelsea side have won three in a row and will look to continue the momentum gained from securing a place in the FA Cup final two weeks ago.
It will also be interesting viewing in the Liverpool managerial dugout, as Klopp will manage his first league game without his second-in-command, Zeljko Buvac, after he stepped away due to personal reasons. His loss for Liverpool will certainly be worth considering as Klopp attempts to out-tactic Conte without the man he calls his ‘brains’.
Mo Salah and the Goals Record
It’s no surprise that Mo Salah’s name is being brought up when previewing a Liverpool game this year due to his scorching form. His 31 goals in the Premier League – a Liverpool club record – leave him just three behind the record total for a season with two games to go. Having already scored against Chelsea at home in the reverse fixture, would you put it past the ‘Egyptian King’ securing history at Stamford Bridge? At 22/1 to score a hat-trick against Chelsea those odds would certainly entice anyone, especially as Salah has scored multiple times in a game eight times this season.
Liverpool securing top four
With Liverpool needing a draw or a win to secure a place in the top four, this game certainly holds incredible importance in the grand scheme of the Premier League. Liverpool have won on their previous two visits to Stamford Bridge and Chelsea have failed to beat Liverpool in their past six encounters – crucially Conte has failed to beat Klopp in their three Premier League meetings. Goals should also be on the cards in this fixture as Liverpool games have only finished with under 2.5 goals 15 times of their 52 fixtures this season. Liverpool will of course have one eye on their European endeavors and have been ravaged by injuries in the midfield through their late season congested fixture list. Bearing that in mind as well as Klopp’s record against Conte and Liverpool’s free flowing style of play, betting on the draw and over 2.5 goals at 17/2 could well be worth a flutter.
