The second weekend of the Premier League contained late drama and fantastic goals as the best league in the world delivered once again.
Chelsea’s late goal beat Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in a manic game, as Tottenham’s professional display against new boys Fulham was enough to secure them their first London scalp.
But it was the tale of two teams in one city yet again as the Manchester teams had split weekends. Sergio Aguero scored a stunning hat-trick for City as they put six past a sorry Huddersfield Town and Manchester United fell on the south coast to a determined Brighton side.
And on Monday night Liverpool continued their fine start to the season away at Crystal Palace putting two past Roy Hodgson’s team.
The weekend told us more about how the top of the table may look come the end of the season as we move into matchday three, and our weekly dose of Premier League drama.
Manchester City travel to the midlands and newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers, as Arsenal search for their first win of the campaign at home to West Ham.
Brighton will travel to Liverpool in high spirits, as the most mouth-watering game of the weekend takes place down the M62 with Manchester United hosting Spurs at Old Trafford.
Here we break down the key fixtures in more detail…
Wolverhampton vs Manchester City
Pep Guardiola said Aguero was in the best condition he has seen him in after his superb hat-trick against Huddersfield Town.
City put six past the travelling side and when they have players like Aguero scoring for fun, along with Guardiola’s options all over the park, it is hard not to fancy City for another League title.
Wolves were unlucky against Leicester City at the weekend, who lost discipline but grinded out a dogged win at the King Power Stadium.
New man Traore looks a fantastic signing from Middlesbrough for £18m, looking like he could cause problems to any Premier League back line.
But it won’t be enough to break down City, if Wolves manage to get the ball at all. We see a comfortable City win with odds sitting at 2/9.
Arsenal vs West Ham
Unai Emery is still looking for his first competitive win as Arsenal manager, following Arsene Wenger’s departure in the summer.
His shadow will be cast over the club for some time as Emery continues to make his changes to try and get Arsenal back on top of English football.
Yet fans will have to exercise patience for any changes to come into fruition, and two defeats to the top clubs in the league so far this season acted as a reality check to the north London faithful.
West Ham’s season has started with two defeats and possible signs of a hangover from their troubles last time out. Obvious issues in midfield need to be addressed as Mark Noble and Jack Wilshere have struggled to control play.
Both teams will be desperate for a win, so expect an exciting London derby, but we see Arsenal taking this one with odds of a home win at 4/11.
Liverpool vs Brighton
If there was one word to describe Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side it would be goals, lots of goals.
Klopp has created one of the most exciting attacking teams in world football, and the start of this campaign has been no different, putting four past West Ham and two past Crystal Palace - they have looked extremely comfortable.
They go into Saturday’s clash facing a confident Brighton team who have just turned over a Jose Mourinho side.
We expect goals at both ends of the pitch in this one but must back Liverpool at home with odds at 1/6.
Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur
The weekend’s most exciting match up sees Manchester United host a Tottenham side with their star man scoring yet again.
Harry Kane finally scored his first League goal in August as Spurs beat Fulham last weekend, and he will travel to Manchester hoping to continue doing what he does best, scoring goals.
The United board have publicly backed Jose Mourinho amidst rumours of Zinedine Zidane coming to Old Trafford, and possible upheaval in the dressing room.
A win against a classy Tottenham side would silence any critics, for this weekend at least. We see a United win at home with odds at 6/4.
