Recent Form
Having rotated a lot for the game against Andorra, there didn’t seem to be much in the way of difference, with 1-0/4-0 half-time/full-time results in both outings so far this international break, which are perfect foundations going into what is probably the hardest game of the group.
Patrick Bamford didn’t enjoy the best of debuts against the Andorran back-line, and in a game of this magnitude we’d expect to see Harry Kane back in the starting line-up, while Kalvin Phillips, Mason Mount and Raheem Sterling should all come back into the side. That leaves this England side looking quite menacing as they look to keep this rich vein of form going.
The Three Lions are on a strong 15 game unbeaten run now over 90 minutes stretching back to November last year when they were ousted 2-0 by Belgium, and Poland will be very wary of the threat their visitors pose all over the pitch.
Poland have been exceptionally prolific over this international break themselves. Netting 11 times across their two matches, albeit with just five different goalscorers.
It should also be noted that those outings came against Albania and San Marino, both of whom England have already dispatched to nil in this group, and with the Three Lions’ current defensive record it’s hard to see the Poland team having a field day.
Both Teams To Score
Indeed, England have conceded just twice in 11 matches and have conceded just once in five from this group so far.
That 11-match run did, however, start after their 2-1 victory over Poland themselves, with that Jakub Moder goal the single one that they’ve conceded in these qualifiers and with the current potency in which the Poles are netting, we wouldn’t bank on a clean sheet for the visitors.
Both teams have found the net in four of the last five head-to-heads since the turn of the century, and with 19 goals between them already this international break it would be surprising if either kept a clean sheet.
Robert Lewandowski is arguably the best striker in world football at the moment and has already increased his Poland goal tally by three in the last week.
While he’s not scored in either of appearances against England so far, he’s netted 10 in six for club and country already this season, scoring in every game, while of his last 24 professional outings, he’s found the net at least once in 22, so he’ll be very hard to keep quiet.
