Wolves make the trip south to London for a Sunday clash with Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace, who have made a reasonably impressive start to the season given some fairly low expectations.
The Eagles were sitting pretty in fourth before being humbled by Spurs in their most recent outing, but still only sit one point adrift of third place at this early stage as the table is yet to disperse.
On the other hand, Wolves are still looking for their first win of the season after a below par performance at home to Chelsea.
Roy Hodgson has worked wonders so far for this Palace side and his work often goes unnoticed. Indeed, since the matchday 25 victory over Fulham last season, no team aside from Man City and Liverpool have picked up more points than the Eagles.
When excluding results versus the ‘Big Six’, against whom they’ve typically lost despite a few notable exceptions, Hodgson’s men are a highly respectable W6-D4-L2 at Selhurst Park since December.
Wolves Need The Win
Wolves are going through a bit of a dry spell in terms of results. They’ve only picked up the solitary away win from their last nine league attempts, which came at a struggling Watford side that were in the early stages of their current winless run of nine games.
It therefore seems strange that the midlands side are slight favourites for this one considering they have a tough Europa League game versus Braga to focus on midweek, so we’re chomping at the bit to back Palace as the underdogs.

Given the way both sides like to set up on the counter, it would be surprising to see a goal fest without one team really driving the initiative. Each meeting last term saw fewer than three goals and whereas Wolves often delivered excellent results against the ‘Big Six’ by breaking quickly, they found such an approach less effective facing bottom-half outfits.
In fact, eight of the visitors’ 13 defeats last season came when taking on such teams, while 16 of 20 matches against them saw under 2.5 goals land.
Crystal Palace To Win
Moreover, Palace have witnessed a maximum of one goal in each of their three games against teams outside the ‘Big Six’ so far this season. 13 of their last 16 such home matches have yielded two match goals or fewer, with the only fixture to produce more than three strikes the 5-3 victory over Bournemouth last season.
That result was more of a final day free-for-all in any case, while the Cherries are often involved in high-scoring contests, so we’d expect this to fit the normal pattern.
