A 3-0 thrashing of Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday would certainly have pleased Pep Guardiola. The Spanish coach will know that this is a great opportunity too as his side looks to win three straight League Cup titles, as Liverpool have left their ‘kids’ to do a job at Villa Park in one of the other quarter-finals.
Oxford meanwhile, have hit a rough patch in their season as they were knocked out of the English Football League Trophy by Exeter at the start of the month, before then drawing at the Kassam Stadium when hosting Shrewsbury Town in League One, while defeat to MK Dons last time out (who currently sit in the relegation zone) was a little worrying.
Man City To Win To Nil
Man City have been the dominant force in this competition since Guardiola turned up in England, winning two of the past three, whilst they even won it the year before that under Manuel Pellegrini.
Interestingly, these two faced off in the third round last year during September at this very stadium, with the Citizens running out 3-0 victors and we wouldn’t be surprised to see a repeat of that scoreline.
The likes of David Silva, Gabriel Jesus, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, John Stones and Vincent Kompany all played in that game last year, with both Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling coming off the bench, so it was hardly a weak outfit.

The U’s have kept a clean sheet in six of their last seven matches here across the league and Carabao Cup combined, winning five of them as only Sunderland’s Mark McNulty could get on the scoreboard over that period since mid-September, so they’re hardly going to be pushovers. However, the Citizens are a cut above and know how to get the job done.
Having not lost a fixture in this tournament for 14 matches dating back to October 2016, we somewhat doubt that’s going to start now.
In fact, they’ve conceded just two goals from their last nine such matches, as they won to nil in four of the six games away from the Etihad, with three quarters of those victories finishing exactly 3-0.
Considering Oxford are without a goal in 276 minutes of football now across all competitions, we’re happy to go for that.
