Recent Form
It has been an exceptional start to the season for Liverpool as they’re yet to drop a single point and have carved out a nice five-point gap from the rest of the Premier League pack.
Meanwhile, Napoli have hardly been slouches this term as they’ve beaten both Fiorentina and Sampdoria, while only a 90th minute own goal separated them in their trip to Juventus.
Head-To-Head Last Year
It was only last year in the group stages when these two sides met for the first time since their Europa League meeting back in 2010, and given the quality of the two sides it was no surprise to see two hard fought 1-0 victories for the respective home sides.
However, it was the Reds that went on to lift to Champions League title last season and they now look to be oozing with confidence off the back of that, as recent comfortable victories over Arsenal (H), Burnley (A) and Newcastle (H) have shown.
Liverpool On The Road
The market puts the English visitors as the favourites and probably for good reason given that outstanding domestic form.
However, if we look at their results on the road in Europe last term, then we can see they suffered defeats at Napoli, Red Star Belgrade and PSG in the group stages, while they won’t have forgotten their 3-0 hiding at the Nou Camp in the semis.
In fact, under Jurgen Klopp in both the Europa League and Champions League combined, they’ve won just seven of their 19 road trips.

By contrast, the men from Naples may not have advanced to the knockout stages last year, but they still won two of three unbeaten outings at Stadio San Paolo, before going on to breeze past both Zurich and Salzburg here in the last-32 and last-16 of the Europa League respectively.
Moreover, they’ve gone W23-D6-L3 at their home ground since mid-March last year, beating the likes of AC Milan, Lazio, Inter and Liverpool themselves in that time.
Carlo Ancelotti also doesn’t fare too badly against the visitors’ manager Jurgen Klopp. Indeed, they’ve each won two apiece from their four head-to-heads and interestingly, the Italian coach has won each of his games on home turf, as the first came back in April 2014 for Real Madrid and that second last October for his current side.

Liverpool will still be without star keeper Alisson Becker for this. They’ve kept just the solitary clean sheet from the seven games across all competitions that he’s missed since arriving at the club, going W4-D1-L2, while they also failed to secure a clean sheet against Norwich on the opening day this season after he departed the field.
