The Kolkata Knight riders were humbled last time out by Bangalore by 82 runs, as they missed out on joining their next opponents and Delhi capitals at the head of the table on 10 points after the first round of fixtures.
The Mumbai Indians are the team to beat at the minute having gone W5-L2 from their seven outings so far, including victories in each of the last four. One of those defeats came in the opening game against Chennai Super Kings, while the other was to an impressive Royal Challengers Bangalore outfit in a Super Over.
With a bowling attack of Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, James Pattinson and Rahul Chahar it’s easy to see why, while Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock have been impressive with the bat.
Mumbai Indians Highest Opening Partnership
Kolkata have some impressive batsmen of their own in Shubman Gill and Eoin Morgan, but there certainly seems to be a gulf in class between the two sides.
New opener Tom Banton looked off the pace in the 12 balls he faced against Bangalore, scoring just eight runs and Kolkata will need to hope he finds his feet sooner rather than later.
That brings us to our first bet of the match given the English batsmen is still getting to terms with the pace of the pitches, and we just can’t see the opening partnership of de kock and Sharma not outscoring the Kolkata openers.
Mumbai Indians To Win
Finally, we have to get behind Sharma’s charges to take the win. They’ve won 10 of the last 11 head-to-heads between the two sides dating back to May 2015, and coming here off the back of beating what looks like their closest competitors this year in the Delhi Capitals, we seriously like their chances.
Mumbai Indians Highest Opening Partnership At 5/6
