Recent Form

Motherwell suffered their first defeat in seven league games prior to the international break, winning four of these, though each of those victories came over the current bottom four in the table.

In fact, ignoring their results against the bottom five teams, they’ve lost two of three winless encounters this term as aside from a draw with leaders Rangers, they’ve suffered defeats to second and third-placed Hearts and Hibernian respectively.

Celtic may be enduring a difficult time and find themselves as low as sixth in the table, but they’re only two points adrift of third place and will expect to climb the table over the coming weeks.

They’re only a single point behind fourth-placed Motherwell, but are struggling for consistency, though will hope the goalscoring return of star summer signing Kyogo Furuhashi just before the international break heralds a return to form.

Motherwell’s defeat to Hearts last time out was the first time this season where they’ve failed to score, but it wasn’t for want of trying as they had as any as 20 shots throughout the game as their opponents held firm.

However, whereas Hearts hold the joint-best defensive record this term, even conceding a goal fewer than Rangers, Celtic’s defensive frailties have been a source of constant distress.

Both Teams To Score

The Hoops have conceded four times in each of their Europa League group games against Real Betis and Bayer Leverkusen, but even limited to domestic league games, they’ve only managed three clean sheets from their eight appearances to date.

Two of those came against the bottom two in the table, Ross County and Dundee, while all three shutouts were achieved at Parkhead where they’ve been much better this season.

Away from home, Celtic have registered just eight clean sheets from 23 league games since the start of last season, with none of those coming in the current campaign.

They’ve lost three from four trips so far, though can boast a healthy head-to-head record with their hosts here.

The Hoops have won each of the past eight meetings and all but one of these came by a minimum two-goal margin, as six saw at least three clear goals separate the teams.

However, they’re not quite the dominant force of old and especially away from home, so this should prove a more competitive affair.

PREDICTION:

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
