Recent Form
Both these sides would have considered themselves lucky not to have drawn one of the remaining 15 Premier League sides left in the competition, and both will know this is an extremely good opportunity to progress further in the competition.
This will be the second meeting between the two sides so far this season, with Millwall running out 2-0 winners at Ashton Gate just over a month ago.
In fact, Bristol don’t have the best recent record against the Lions, winning just one of the last nine head-to-heads, though that did come here at the Den not two years ago with two goals in the final 15 minutes to turn the game on its head.
However, that win over the Robins in December was something of an anomaly for Millwall this season, as it was just one of two wins that they’ve played out in their last 16 Championship fixtures, with the other coming in midweek against Huddersfield.
Though what they lack in form, they make up with in Cup experience, and this is a competition in which they’ve performed well in recent years.
Gary Rowett’s side have reached the quarters in two of the last four seasons, while they also went on a run to the semis back in 2012/13 which hasn’t been forgotten.
Their home record is near impeccable in recent years too, with their defeat here last season to a strong Sheffield United side their first FA Cup loss here since 2015, winning nine of the subsequent 11 unbeaten matches, including against Premier League sides Everton, Leicester, Watford and Bournemouth.
Millwall To Beat Bristol
Bristol City havn’t been as prolific in this Cup, with this being the fourth occasion they’ve reached this round in the last 14 years, while they haven’t made it past the 5th round since the 1973/74 season.
They’re currently on a run of W4-D3-L6 in this competition, with their three most recent victories coming on home soil while they’ve failed to register a single goal away from home in over four years.
Their recent form in the league also needs some answering, as they come into this off the back of a 2-0 defeat, meaning they’ve now lost five of their last seven Championship outings, so with the Lions coming into this off a midweek victory, they look better priced to carry their momentum through this weekend.
