Recent Form

Young Boys put Europe on red alert when beating Man United in the opening week of the Champions League this season, though they’ve failed to press on and currently sit bottom of the group having picked up just one point from their other four outings.

A draw with Atalanta in their last game has given them a chance of qualifying for the Europa League, though that would require another victory here and a brave man would bet on them doing the double over the Red Devils.

Man United looked like a completely different unit against Crystal Palace, with their high pressing and intensity evident from the get-go.

Ultimately they required a stunning finish from Fred to seal the win, though they dominated throughout and a similar performance here should see them over the line more comfortably.

With United having already qualified top of the group, new manager Ralph Ragnick may use this as an option to try out some names that may not have been regulars under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's reign.

Donny van de Beek is one that will likely get a starting spot, though the likes of Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial are now sidelined through injury. Anthony Elanga and Teden Mengi could well get the nod here too.

Man United To Win To Nil

Young Boys are on a poor run of form at the moment, going W1-D2-L5 over their last eight outings across all competitions and are currently in real danger of giving up their league title for the first time since 2016/17.

Another victory here would be completely out of the blue, and with a much better feeling around the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ at the moment, it seems less of a question of ‘if’ United will win, but more ‘by how many’ they’ll win.

The English side, by their standards, have a relatively poor recent Champions League record at home, going W5-D1-L5 in such outings.

However, those defeats have come against PSG (twice), Barcelona, Juventus and Sevilla, all of whom are of far greater quality than their opponents here, and their last real shock defeat came when hosting CFR Cluj back in 2012.

When facing sides outside Europe’s top six leagues, United have gone W8-D1 at home since that defeat to Cluj, and they’ve kept clean sheets in 2/3rds of those games, including the last time they hosted Young Boys (1-0). Even with multiple changes, the hosts will want to impress the new manager and we’d expect total dominance, and the win to nil certainly should be considered.

PREDICTION:

MAN UNITED TO WIN TO NIL
