Michael Carrick may have departed Man Utd following his short stint as caretaker boss, but he’s left them with a parting present as they overcame Arsenal on Thursday night.
The Red Devils can’t get too carried away with their three-game unbeaten streak, having also beaten Villarreal and drawn with Chelsea, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction against three quality outfits.
Patrick Vieira can be pleased with his work at Crystal Palace so far, with a good start to the season handing them some early breathing space as they sit in 11th place.
However, they are now winless in three outings since the last international break as they were held to a draw at Burnley, before back-to-back defeats against Aston Villa and Leeds.
A shock 2-0 win away to Man City at the end of October has undoubtedly been the highlight, as well as a 3-0 triumph over Tottenham back in September, though it’s hard to get too excited about the Eagles prospect here.
3-0 defeats on the road to both Chelsea and Liverpool earlier this season are perhaps more indicative of how this one could play out, with the Eagles just W1-D3-L4 away from Selhurst Park in all competitions this season.
Man United To Win
Palace do hold an excellent record travelling to Old Trafford over the past three seasons, earning a draw in 2018/19 and victories in their last two there.
However, Ralph Rangnick will have a hungry squad eager to impress in his first game at the helm, and with a short turnaround between fixtures, there will be a number of players hoping for an opportunity here.
Edinson Cavani remains sidelined and Cristiano Ronaldo could potentially be handed a rest, even if his late substitution was just precautionary.
Paul Pogba and Raphael Varane will also miss out, while Luke Shaw remains a doubt, but there’s plenty of alternatives available to the new man in the dugout.
Vieira will hope to have Joachim Anderson back here, otherwise James Tomkins will continue to deputize.
However, right-back Joel Ward is suspended and with Nathan Ferguson a long-term absentee, Nathaniel Clyne should be handed an opportunity to re-establish himself in the side.
Elsewhere, James McArthur remains sidelined and Luka Milivojevic will hope to return to the midfield to replace Jeffrey Schlupp.
Odsonne Edouard was another that was ineffective against Leeds, even if he was played out on the left, but will likely drop to the bench with Christian Benteke returning to the side and Zaha moving back out to the flanks.
